A couple of years ago, I was leaving the grocery store decked in hat and puffer, laden with bags, and a cute sincere dude chased me down in the parking lot.  He said, "I know this sounds ridiculous, but is there ANY chance you're single and available?"  I politely told him I was married with a kid, to which he responded, "Of course you are, I just would have regretted not taking the chance for the rest of my life."  And he waved and walked off.  Now THAT I didn't mind. It's especially nice to get some attention both on days when I've really put in effort, and on days when I feel cruddy. When I've put in effort, It's nice to see it appreciated by someone, and when I feel cruddy, it's a little bit of a pick-me-up.  In your case, I have to say there was nothing inappropriate about your outfit whatsoever, BUT you do look like a gorgeous leggy vision in it, so some of your more awkward coworkers may not realize how ogle-y they're being as they admire the view. Not that I'm excusing rudeness or harassment, just saying that they probably don't think they're being as obnoxious as they are. CocoLion on "Do you like when men look?" https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/do-you-like-when-men-look/page/2#post-1084107 Wed, 13 Nov 2013 22:01:25 +0000 CocoLion 1084107@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ OK, I do have something to say about this. - When I was younger, I always looked down because like Avahmaria I felt really uncomfortable with ANY kind of attention (I was that shy).  My strategy was to ignore 100%. - As I became older and more comfortable with myself, I started to enjoy the attention!  I would say, from age 35-52.  (Now I too am invisible like MaryK so it doesn't happen anymore.)  I could take ogling, staring -- I had a greater tolerance and I just chalked it up to male awkwardness.  But -- I drew the line at touching/pawing and cat-calling.  Or any kind of kissing/sucking sound when passing by.  And even at 55 I would still be grossed out by that behavior. As for you IK you look amazing in your outfit today!  You have a very attractive, toned figure.  You look better than a lot of models (harking back to an earlier thread of yours) -- really.  I just think males aren't used to seeing someone in such fine shape.  Even most young women don't look this good. I can see that women look him up and down, and he says he sees men look me over. But neither of us ever notices the opposite sex looking at us. I have been catcalled, although not much given that I live in a small town where I don't walk very many places. It mostly happened when I was living in larger metropolitan areas. And I do NOT find it flattering. I find it creepy and intimidating. No one likes to be spotted. I'm reminded of something - this UK show that I watched on the differences between the sexes. Men apparently have terrible peripheral vision compared to women and turn their heads more to look straight on when something catches their eye. Women ogle just as much, but they don't get caught. I will say I do think the short black skirt, black hose, and ankle-strap open-heeled shoes are actually pushing the dress-code boundaries for a conservative engineering environment. That's not button down. I have worked in places where one more element or too many days of that, and I'd be expected to come talk to you about it. Friendly-like of course. Like Diana said, I have no interest in attracting or catering to the male gaze. I have an inexplicable problem with middle aged or older men creepily staring and/or trying to hit on me with their smart phones in cafes, which then makes me avoid said cafes until I think it might be safe again. I have a good bitch face, despite my natural tendency towards cute, but inside it always makes me feel dirty and ruins my day. Once I was in Italy and had just left dinner with a mixed group of friends. These 2 young men were walking along side us and turning to stare & cat call me. Not looking where he was going, one guy accidentally walked right into a lamp post! I tend to cut guys a break on the manners thing, initially.  Most men these days are hampered by an uncertainty of how to react to women.  All the general media attention about sexual harrassment in the workplace, what is acceptable or unacceptable...   guys don't know what to say, what to do, where to put their eyes - until you let them know.    Verbally or non-verbally For my part, I'm a straight-shooter.  I reward good manners, and sincere compliments, with returned attention and conversation - and I never let the conversation linger for very long on how I look, or what I am wearing.   If a guy has his eyes on my chest or legs for what I deem an inordinate amount of time, I'll call him out on it.  "Hey hey hey,  eyes up here".   Usually it breaks the discomfort, gives us both a chuckle, and let's a guy know he's being kind of a momentary creep, in a way that breaks tension and doesn't hold any grudges.    Often a co-worker won't realize he's making you uncomfortable, so call him out on it.    Then if it continues, go talk to HR. This has always served me well, and I've never had to deal with an issue or harrassment or feeling uncomfortable in the workplace. A creep is a creep is a creep.  A guy who is truly got an icky vibe, won't care if you're wearing a skirt, or a muu-muu.  I get ogled, cat-called, and propositioned in baggy sweats and stringy hair.   Those people, I just give a cold, impassive stare that is just short enough to convey that I have no interest in their opinion - and then I go about my business.
