I have tried some socks from TJ Maxx that were part alpaca, maybe 40%? and they were better but not perfect. I'm thinking the % makes a big difference. I also have some Darn Tough and they seem pretty warm but not soft so I don't wear them often. The Smartwool Sulawesi socks held up much better. And I have Falke socks which are awesome for dressier shoes, they are also thinner than the Smartwool socks. I can wear them with my oxfords and I normally wear tights with those shoes. They're not 100% wool though. They were called trouser socks. I think they may have had some nylon - ten percent or so. They weren't at all comfortable for me.
