Thanks for sharing your goals everyone & Angie's idea of checking back in six months is brilliant. I've put it in my diary.
Texstyle - summer style is another biggie for me. Boots, jeans & leather jackets are easy but 100* plus weather makes it difficult to look stylish - I've tried dresses & they just aren't me, so I'm still working on this too.

1. Be brutal about purging things that don't make me feel fab
2. Shop when I need something, not when I'm bored
3. Visit some local consignment shops and see if I can sell some things
4. Find a better way to store my scarves

A fun read! I like your goals, Caro. And I look forward to seeing them unfold.

Everyone here, and that includes me, should definitely look back on this thread 6 months from now and compare their actions to your original goals. I look forward to seeing your styles evolve.

I don't make style goals, or any resolutions, at the beginning of the year. I make them throughout the year as they come up and are necessary. As disciplined as I am, to box myself into a pattern for the entire year would make me very unhappy.

I continue to strive for a crisp, clean, simple and bold style that incorporates by beloved classics with fun new trends and a big dose of MODERN. A little preppy, a little punk, a little retro, and equal parts of tomboy and ladylike style. Always polished, and always picky, patient and practical about my purchases. And most importantly, always having fun along the way.

I'd like to nail a good summer style (my dominant season) that makes me feel fab even when it's 90-100 degrees outside. Last year via YLF I "discovered" boyfriend shorts (longer length, rolled up for me) and that went a long way to help me. Belts as a fashion accessory have also been a new again thing for me. It's the tops, shoes and general "style" that I feel is lacking in the heat. It's also very windy where I live and I am pretty active outdoors, so dresses/skirts are not the best option.

Stick to replacing items versus purchasing random new one's. My closet is finally down to a more manageable size and I want to stick to one in and one out with my purchases. Also to try only one new "trendy" item a season to keep my wardrobe fresh. Last year I purchased a green blazer in the spring and a green jean in the summer and both single purchases really gave my wardrobe some "life" for the season. Being picky about what new item I select will keep my wardrobe small and force me to focus on the fit, colors, and fabrics of a new item and less impulse trend purchasing where I ignore these criteria for the sake of something "new."

(1) One in, one out (except for sweaters and accessories) - my closet is full.
(2) Buy fewer, nicer things - this should be easy, or at least easier, now that I have more decent clothes.
(3) Figure out what colors suit me.
(4) The perfect white jeans, the perfect black bag.

I do not think I have a specific style. I like various styles at least on others and on myself too, although I have never yet worn some of them. For example I like casual, I like Desigual looks and I like many of the styles Angie wears. So maybe I am all over the place? One thing is certain, I like to be confortable, especially shoes as my feet are very fussy.

I am aiming to cut this years spend by at least half- now that I have recognised and filled lots of gaps with the help of YLF.
It will be a one-in-one-out exercise, with the emphasis on quality rather than quality.

Ooh, good question!

I want to seriously try to SYC until Spring, get one good Spring refresher piece, one good Summer piece, and then possibly wait for a big blowout at the next YLF Shoptoberfest. Not sure if I can really do it... I've vowed SYC before and failed miserably, but what are resolutions for...?

Elly, I love tomboy style. I agree accessories & experimentation are an important part of developing a style. My niece really likes this blogger:
http://www.puttingmetogether.c.....eries.html
I like the visuals.

Alecia I buy local when I can but we need better labelling (in Australia) before we can make informed decisions about new clothes.

christieanne Love the sound of prepster boho. There is a boho/American classic woman in The Lucky Style Guide - she says her basics are blazers floaty tunics & riding boots - would they work for you? Glad you like the quote too.

Fascinating! I have been away from the Forum for a while and coming back to read and have time to comment a bit is getting me thinking more conscientiously about style. Caro, that quote is helpful.
My goal for 2013 is to step up casual looks with more accessories and somehow merge my classic/prepster side with boho side. I am not sure that is possible. Sometimes I feel like I have a split personality and there must be a happy medium.

I have been trying to invest in quality over quantity. I continue to be interested in buying American made or thrifted/consigned items. The latter seeks to incorporate values - support for domestic production and trying to live reduce/reuse/recycle.

I would really like to get the hang of personalizing and adding interest to my casual/smart casual looks.

I have the tendency to be a minimalist/tomboy, but I have trouble buying and wearing the little pieces and touches that make more casual looks look deliberate, especially with my rustic leanings. Things like belts, good shoes, a watch, jewelery, scarves and layers/jackets that add a little interest.

I pick things out, but I often have a hard time finding pieces I could see myself wearing without feeling overdone and fussy or like I am posing. Unfortunately tees and jeans with no interesting accessories usually reads either "teen" or "bum" (unprofessional), or "frumpy and older than my age" (unattractive).

My goals involve picking up a few pieces that say "me" and to make outfits (not just clothes) and then actually wearing them and experimenting with different looks.

I want to focus on bringing out my assets and interests and personality so you see "me" and not just awkwardness or under or overstyled clothes.

TraceyLiz65 - Dressing for our bodies is such a great goal. Sounds like you really know where you are going.

ClearlyClaire - Would love to read your thoughts when you are ready. Love where you are going with your "perfectly imperfect" wardrobe.

Day Vies - Your style is so fab already. I love your use of colour. Where do you see it going?

Gaylene - Sounds like you are in a really good place with your clothes. If I did this I don't think my wardrobe would be as coherent as it is (i.e. not very) I am a magpie.

Joy that's another one for me too - regular editing or scanning to see what's working is so important.

My goal is to wear only things that I love. I've come to the realization that my clothes exist to make me happy, not to cause me angst and stress. That means that they have to fit right, make me smile when I walk by the mirror, and let me forget about them so I can go about my life.

I've been thinking things over the past few months and have come to realize that, for me, fashion is fun when I don't over think it. Planning capsules and outfits ought to make me feel good about what is in my closet, not make me want to accumulate more stuff or make me wish I had a whole new wardrobe. So this next year, I plan to use my instincts more and my brain less and to use Jayne's "happiness quotient" as my guide to getting dressed.

Suz you are right, it is a process & who knew it would be such hard work (well Angie did) but it is so worth it imo.

Practical is a really good one for me to keep in mind too. I always ask myself would I wear it today? If not then I really need to think about it.

I do love the modern edge you are bringing to your style - I can see it really developing in the short time I've been here.

Take more time to articulate my style with words and pictures then edit my closet until it is a perfect reflection of me. (I don't expect to achieve this in one year)

I need to think about this--good question! Now that the year is coming to a close, I have some kind of nebulous ideas floating around in my head, but I'm not sure I can articulate them yet.

To reach my goal weight and get rid of things that don't work to enhance my figure or that don't present the image that represents me. To buy items that are the best for my petite height, which I have just recently learned to do...

Oh, Caro, thank you for that quotation. And for your own words, that express so perfectly my own goal as well.

This is a big goal, I think. I'd have named it (or something like it) last year as well.

I haven't got there yet.

But it is a process. And I do feel I am getting much closer.

Deborah, I was so interested to see that it is also a goal of yours. I would say that you have one of the more visually consistent styles on YLF. It is one reason I admire you so much.

And Caro, I would say there is great consistency in your preferred style as well...although I do understand that in your present community you feel pulled to hide your true preferences at times.

In practical terms, my day-to-day goal would be a lot like Shannon's -- to explore the more modern leaning bent to my style as it is evolving.

By the way, small correction -- I believe Angie's PPP is actually "patient, picky, and practical." (Not perfect). Although following the PPPs tends to lead to (near) perfection anyway.

I do think we always need to keep that "practical" in mind, however. There can be no coherent point of view in the absence of context.

TS I love the retro aspect of your look but I totally want to kick the almost right habit too.
Amy - This is one of my struggles too. How to feel like me but still be appropriate.
Thistle - The figuring out what I want is the hard part I want too much but I also want a coherent look (like that's ever going to work).
JulieJohn - Shoes certainly make or break a look for me. Have you tried some bright colours?

These are all fabulous goals.
Nailpolishman - What style of clothing are you drawn to that is different from your usual choices?
Raisin Yes the balance between enough but not too much is something I think about too.
Nirfern - Are you happy with your style or is that changing too?
Mo - 12 items sounds like a good guide, does this include replacements of basics?
Rachylou - Best basics are so important for me too without them nothing works. Have you defined your basics? You mean you don't go to confession for reading horoscopes?
Atlantia - it's so great you are using this time to your advantage. It is so important to remember to experiment & have fun.
Jewell - I love how you have distilled your goals - a busy year ahead for you too :)
bionda - That's a big one for me too.
Karie - I have that on order from the library. I try to shop green & local when I can but it isn't easy.
Deborah - I love your style & can't wait to see how your goals play into any changes that occur. Obscure fact - even the Chanel #5 bottle changes for time to time - I love how that happens without any major overhaul - I think I want to be a Chanel #5 bottle lol.
bj1111 You never look stuffed into your clothing but I know the feeling, how's the plan going?
shevia - Yes such a great goal - it is always a process.
