We've never had cable telly, so I rarely ever watch television, and when I do it is generally public television. My son has a monitor at his desk (a nook in the living area of the home), so he could use it as a screen for programs, but he just games.</p> <p>We've never had a telly in any bedroom, either for ourselves or the kids, but as we get older I wouldn't necessarily mind being able to snuggle up in bed and watch a movie with Dh. We don’t use it all the time, but it’s nice to curl up together and watch a movie in bed sometimes.<br /> We also have a TV above our fireplace in our den, and another one outside on our covered deck. It’s just a cheap flatscreen but it’s great for watching something outside in the warm months. </p> <p>We stopped cable a few years ago. The only downside to that is that it’s difficult to watch our favorite MLB baseball team’s games because there is a local blackout on their coverage unless you subscribe to cable and subscribe to the the owners’ channel (in our case MASN, owned by the owners of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals). It’s quite fascinating, how so few homes, even new “ modern” builds, have a good place for today’s “ TV” screen. It’s partly the move to “open concept “, but also that the family room , often the only living room, continues to be centered on a fireplace, making it very difficult to find a place for TV screen and arrange furniture in a pleasing way because of competing focal points. Of course then many people are left with placing TV high on the wall above the fireplace. And many contortions regarding furniture arrangements.<br /> Sometimes there is a basement, or an extra room that can be a media room, but often not. The older, smaller one from our condo days ended up in our bedroom and a larger newer (13 years old) one in our living room (wall mounted above the fireplace) but our whole main floor is open concept and not very big so we can hear it from the kitchen and watch it from the dining room table is some spots. We only do this for “important” sporting events lol.<div><br /></div><div>I never thought I’d want a TV in the bedroom but it’s great when sick in bed or recently with my DH’s injured back - the only place where he could get some relief was propped up in bed.</p> <p>I’ve become a bit of a news junkie since Covid so that’s on in the morning before work and for an hour or so after work. He prefers gaming as it is more social, playing online with friends, and requires strategy and skill. He was excited when Tears of the Kingdom was released by Nintendo recently and he enjoyed playing it on our TV. I watched him play and it was like being part of a beautiful Anime movie. My brother left it. That’s also in the sitting room. And there’s the iPad and my phone. The largest is 50”. That’s five proper tvs, two ‘devices.’ And there are three active laptops.</p> <p>No cable anymore, but I’m subscribed to a zillion streaming services.
