I never had a cashmere scarf, but it would be great to own one. When I wear scarves I wear them the whole day, the only exception is a really warm and thick scarf I only wear to like take a walk in the snow. When I buy a scarf I have to like the look of it. The only thing I test is if the fabric is soft and comfortable against my skin. I normally don't look for very specific fabrics. Besides, I have so many scarves that I certainly have at least one for every kind of weather.

Makrame, that first scarf you linked to is absolutely gorgeous! I LOVE it in Plum Combo, all of my favourite colors! Actually Nordstrom is now shipping to Germany - for 40€ shipping cost.

Generally speaking my indoor scarves do not overlap with my outerwear scarves. I mean if I really need protection from the cold, that is a whole different category, and then cashmere would be a lovely choice.

In the Fall, I tend to wear any material dending on the temperature and the neckline.
By November, I usually wear light wool or light cashmere. I LOVE Nordstrom's light cashmere scarves.

I LOVE the wool ones posted here, BTW.

Kari, that Halogen scarf looks great, too. I had a different color version of it on my wishlist but it sold out.

This scarf http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/ac.....RRWidgetID looks like it would be fun for early fall.

Oooh, that La Fiorentina scarf is beautiful. Actually it reminds me a lot of the beautiful floral/watercolor print thin, large wool scarf that I got at Ann Taylor Loft last year.

These are also great and don't cause me to itch (I have somewhat sensitive skin), and are fantastic both from a fashion perspective as well for practical uses (keeping it in a purse to pull out in a cold office or on an airplane.) I don't have this year's version but have two from last year, and I bought the navy/olive printed scarf for my friend for her birthday recently. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ha.....sultback=0

It seems there is room for all types of scarves. Thanks for the replies. Makrame, that one you linked to is very pretty.... and tempting. mrseccentric, I am leaning towards having a little collection of cashmere with a few more patterned/other material scarves thrown in. Mostly, I want to choose the scarves I get carefully to make the best use of my closet space and multi-functional with my wardrobe.

I enjoy scarves but my only criteria is that it feels soft against my neck. In winter, cashmere can be nice, but is not required for me. The thickness is very important for me too, it has to be middle to thin with the thickness to drape in the various ways I like to tie my scarves. Thick, cashmere one's have limited styling for me.

i love cashmere scarves and cardis any time of year. so soft and the best warmth/weight ratio of any fiber i know. i can tuck a tiny cashmere cardi in my bag and get all the warmth i need by slipping it under a jacket when the fog comes streaming in the golden gate.

when it's super cold (well.... super cold for around here where we only get snow once in ten years) i'll wear two scarves sometimes - one for warmth, one for 'show'. if both 'go' with the outfit i call it a 'style statement'! have fun with your scarves, Kafe - are you leaning one way or the other? steph

I prefer lightweight wool or synthetic fiber scarves, rather than cashmere. I like scarves with vibrant prints that are easy to tie and drape. This http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/la.....n=wishlist looks like the type of scarf I am talking about. Loft often has nice fall scraves, whereas TJMax and Marshall will have beutiful silk scarves for warmer weather (for some reason I never see drapey fall scarves in bright colors there).

I think of cashmere scarves as outerwear...I love cashmere scarves because unlike wool they do not irritate the sensitive skin on my neck and unlike synthetics they are warm but still breath. I am not much of a scarf wearer in my regular wear but I would wear a silk scarf under a cashmere scarf in winter if the silk one were part of my outfit.

For fall (and winter), do you favor cashmere scarves, because they are warm, to complete your outfit? Or do you generally choose anything that suits your fancy to complete your look?
