You learn something new every day! (thanks Gigi!) The funny thing is, I haven't gone off my burgundy footwear. I have a pair of pointy-toed burgundy boots with straps that I just love. But suddenly burgundy tops don't seem to go with anything. I used to wear them with dark blue denim, but now I can't stand that colour combo! So weird. Thanks for the input, everyone. I have a few black long-sleeved blouses that I now find extremely mood draining and unflattering for my skin and complexion. They're voluminous, and I think that contributes to my feeling overwhelmed. I'm still happy having tailored black garments, though. In terms of proper colours, happy to report that like Angie, the colours that have always made me happy--aqua, turquoise, plum, wine, to name a few-- still make me happy! I have learned to buy just one or two items in any color (except true neutrals, which I can buy until the cows come home), because I know that by the time a year goes by, I may have fallen completely out of love and feel "ho-hum" about the color. I think a lot of it has to do with the emotive qualities of some colors. Our emotional needs are always changing, so it's no surprise that sometimes the same color doesn't "do it" for us year after year. Yes, aubergine is the same as eggplant. Aubergine is the British term for that vegetable. I haven't been in the shops much, I admit.  Angie, my hair has been either bright red or hot pink, but never burgundy. At the moment it's auburn. Is eggplant the same as aubergine? The colour that I thought was aubergine (the one I'm digging at the moment) is kind of a blackish purple. I don't see much out there in shades of purple that I like. For me it's dark navy. About 2 yrs ago, I tried slowly switching my base neutral from black to navy - especially ink blue navy, the darker kind. Just makes me feel a bit blah especially outside of winter. I also am having the same struggles as you with burgundy. With black or blue it feels to somber on me. I still do like that colour though so I am going to persist. Also beige/stone type colours. I like them on others but they also make me feel blah. Have lots of it but definitely not buying more. I'm wearing plum now instead of burgundy for the exact same reason.  And I'm taking a break, other than occasional pieces, from teal.  I was off olive a few years ago, but now it is back strong.  Gray is feeling very "neither here, nor there" for me right now. Some pieces I like. I love burgundy right now and don't really feel a classic dark purple. I used to love burgundy, but suddenly I feel like it doesn't go with any of my bottoms. I suddenly don't like it with any shade of blue jean, or with black. It look OK with grey I guess, but it somehow feels dated to my eye. I still like the colour in theory, but only on its own -- like, a dress of burgundy. Has this sort of thing ever happened to you? I can't seem to get enough of the (related) colour aubergine, though!
