Once I was conversational, I realized we had nothing to talk about. Oops. </p> <p>Nearly learned Somali, from the guy I was in love with and his friends. Couldn’t figure out why I was having such a difficult time picking it up, until someone told me the dude was intentionally using archaic structure and rare words, to slow me down. Also oops. </p> <p>I learned Swiss German as an exchange student, mostly from the 10 year d in my family, who was very into me. I later learned proper high German from my (now ex-)husband. Is there a pattern here? </p> <p>For my next trick, I want to learn Arabic, not from a guy. I plan on taking university classes and possibly a language school on the Mediterranean.
