I think the toe cap actually breaks up the top of the shoe line so that it shortens the look. Not boat like at all! You could try freshly ground coffee to get rid of the smell. Not the used grounds, but fresh from the package. I have some little cotton drawstring bags, I think they held jewelry at some point. I fill them with ground coffee. Then I wrap in tissue paper in case anything leaks through. You can put one in each shoe. It really works. I have done the same with musty smelling leather jackets too. I think it's just looking down at that shiny toe cap. They look great on you! Mine have zero smell to them, but mine were the display pair. Maybe the smell will dissipate quickly if they are left out of the box.
