They may be too casual too; if they were solid, polished cotton I probably wouldn't think twice. I wouldn't hesitate to wear them with cotton shirts. The fabric of these pants is not that thick, which makes them suitable to wear most of the year, and the finish is matte. Like Janet said, the only reason the fabrics might not work is if it looks like you're mixing very different seasons.
