I'm in agreement with those who say the real issue is the shaft height in combination with the circumference. I'm 5'1" and I look for boots with a 13.5" - 14" shaft height and my calves' actual circumference.

Yep, a short shaft will make the boots fit properly in the calf.

Plus, it was discussed here awhile ago that depending on the web site, the same boots are described with varying circumferences!

I am not a boot wearer, but the leather on my only pair of boots is thin enough that I can fold under the top inch or so to bring the shaft down to about 14". I could take them to a cobbler, but since I wore them only twice last winter, I am too cheap to spend the money and risk a lousy job.

Thanks ladies! I did hear about the calf hitting the widests point on the short leg than someone who is taller on the article, but you ladies right I have been searching for the right size for me on the net, but skeptical, because not only I am short but my calves are a bit wide for my height and it look like it would be hard in getting boots to even fit my calves on the net lol! I'm going to have to look for the boots with a shorter shaft height, you see this stuff I never took in consideration! Thanks ladies!

I have never heard this either, I write the content for YLF!

Modgrl is right - you are after boots with a short shaft height (14 inches or so).

What you should really do is look for shorter boots - 14"-15" shaft height is perfect for me. It's not that your calves are wider than normal, it's that your widest point is lower than average height people. Good luck!!! Don't forget it takes alot of trial and effort for most people. You probably won't get a killer pair on the first go around.

I've never heard of this before - I think whoever wrote that rec did so because a "normal" boot's widest point would hit higher than the calf on a shorter leg - hence, they said to go up a size so that the lower part of the shaft will still accommodate the calf. BUT that would totally leave you with gaping at the shaft opening. To get a nice, sleek fit, you need to get your correct calf circumference *and* correct shaft height.

I thought so too I usually buy boots in stores the actual calf size, and so the article confused me a little lol!

Interesting. I've never heard that. I'm 5 '3" and typically look for boots with my actual calf circumference and a shaft height of 13-14.5" inches.

Because I read on this site if you are 5'3 or under and if your calf size is 15-16 inches that you add an inch to order the boots online? Because I never order boots online before and I was wondering is that true! Because I am 4'11 with 16 inch calves, I would like to try to order online, but as many times I wanted too, but I was afraid that they either would be too big or too small! So ladies do you add an inch to your calf measurement if you are a petite in order to order boots online?
