Good advice. Whatever coat you wear, you will have with you all day so better not to have something too heavy. That's assuming you're not going to be outside all day, every day.

I second what was said. I think you will e okay, and if not, find a thrift store. You can always resonate it at the end of your trip.

I tend to run warm, but I would be fine with the pieces you mention (I used to live outside of NYC). In the city, you're often walking when you're out, and I find I need a little less coverage when I'm on the move. Now, if you're gonna sit in Central Park and feed the birds, you might need a blanket!

Leave the wool coat and if necessary, go thrifting in NYC. Someone here can direct you to sites.

It's still freakishly cold here, but you will manage. But DO bring the thermals and layering pieces!

Average temps in April in NYC read 8-16C during the day so I'd say you'll be fine if you are not trekking around. (I guess it depends on where you come from. For me that would be balmy, but our weather right now is -10C during the day.)

Remember, you can always buy something warm in NYC if you really need it, and if you don't want to mail it home then donate it at the end of your stay. (That's your emergency plan if you're *really* cold! LOL)

Have fun in NYC!

The reality if 3 months with handluggage is hitting, esp in lugging a wool jacket w me. I now have silk thermals (thanks YLF advice!). Will I survive NYC in about 3 weeks with thermal, long sleeve t, wool cardi and the black waterproof coat, cashmere scarf? I can use those pieces all trip... its too expensive to mail wollies home and sandals there alas...the photo is not great but black will go cross temps, light rain and the collar foo foos up for evening... i will be at work, indoors etc much of the time, not trekking etc...
