I strongly agree with getting maternity jeans. I did not get a decent pair until my third pregnancy and made do with horrible, too big borrowed ones! I wish I had just got some nice ones to start off with. Mine were just from kmart and only about $40. The waistband was something like this
http://www.google.com.au/imgre.....38;bih=717 except the stretchy panel went all the way around rather than just being at the front. I think this style is more flexible than the ones with big front panels when it comes to wearing them afterwards.

As to the that question of whether you will wear them afterwards, I want to say that there is a good chance you will! While not wanting to discount Cileena's experience ( I have a friend who is similar), I don't think many women are back to normal size in a month or less (if that is what you are saying Cileena) The swelling from the uterus does go down, but not everyone takes the weight off that fast. However I found that by 4-6 weeks I could wear normal clothes that were a size or 2 bigger. So with baby no 2 I bought some cheap bigger jeans. But with baby #3 I just wore the great maternity jeans! I was still wearing them for my first post on YLF at 3 months afterwards.
If you get pregnant again the time for wearing maternity bottoms will almost certainly be earlier than this time (by baby no 3 I put them on at 11 weeks!) so you may get some use of them then, too.

Thresa - your questions are very helpful!

Pre-pregnancy I would have said yes, in winter, autumn and spring jeans would have been my go to bottom option for weekends. My non-maternity boot legs fit me until around 16 weeks and my non-maternity leans/jeggings are still fitting me now. Don't know why I have decided to change my preference to skirts and dresses with leggings.

Cilleena - thanks for your input too. I think that with all the sales, I might try a few bootcuts and see how I go.

Do you normally wear jeans a lot on the weekends or is your style more other types of clothes?

Will winter be almost over by the time your bubby is here? Or rather, how much longer do you have left to need warmer things like jeans?

I have no idea what your weather would require!! E was born in the midst of our winter (albeit much milder than yours!), and I only had 1 pair of maternity pants that were only worn occasionally because I felt so much warmer than ever before.

I can't recall ever wearing my maternity pants after birth because I found dresses more comfy (I did have 2 x caesers though). And I don't think I wore my pants often at all with G because she was born right in the middle of Autumn so pregnancy was primarily very hot.

Maybe look around and see if there's any that really take your fancy in case you feel a sudden urge for them?

OOPS sorry I asked you more questions than answered any didn't I LOL

You probably won't wear them much afterwards. Maybe for a few weeks, depending on how fast your tummy goes down. A month max, especially if you are still in your normal leggings now. You are typically a second trimester size when you leave the hospital, but the fluid and swelling goes down in a few weeks and you'll be much smaller fast. This is coming from a mom of 4.

If I were in your situation, I'd get 1 pair of maternity jeans. You will be amazed at how big your tummy gets in the last trimester. You'll probably appreciate the comfort and support of true maternity pants.

Well, what I was wondering is will I wear them afterwards?

I have two pair of maternity trousers that I wear for work and am still in my normal leggings and a lot of my normal dresses too. I have one black maternity skirt and one maternity dress that I haven't worn yet.

I remember finding maternity jeans really comfy in the last trimester of my second pregnancy when I got the kangaroo pouch ones, with soft jersey. It felt supportive over the bump - more so than dresses. But less of a bother with my first one, when presumably I had a few more muscles to hold it all in! I found my reenie belt really useful second time around too.

The answer to your question, though, is probably no, you don't need them if you're happy with skirts and dresses.

If you think you will wear them, yes, maternity jeans are great. The third trimester normally requires maternity pants; skirts and dresses you can sometimes get by with normal clothes but if you want to wear pants, you will need maternity.

I couldn't tell by your post if you've been able to get by without maternity clothes up to this point ... awesome for you if you have!

First, congratualtions on your pregnancy. Now to address you question, I thought I would pull from my own pregnancy experience. I purchased two pairs of maternity jeans late in my 2nd semester of pregnancy, and they came in quite handy for me. However, at the time, I did not enjoy pairing skirts/dresses with leggings for my casual wear.

If you are content in your dresses/skirts then I see no need to purchase them. Instead, I think your investment would be better spent on a dark denim maternity skirt, that you could wear to your office or on the weekends.

Up until now I have quite happily survived without any maternity jeans. I am perfectly happy in skirts and dresses with leggings for casual wear. I would only wear them in the weekends as even though my office is smart casual, jeans are not suitable for my work place (however, a dark denim skirt would be).

So with 13 weeks to go, do you think I should by some maternity jeans?
