They do wear out after a couple of years or so. I have to admit I don't really look after mine. You are supposed to empty them after each use, and unplug, I have left mine running and gone to work. I rarely dump the water, just add. They work amazing. I had that one as seen on tv, it lasted maybe 2 or 3 years, then I bought a shark , I don't think the shark lasted a year. Now I have a small rowenta. Its a travel one. I have had it a year ish. I do plan on getting a big one again.<br /> Also, as a side note, not that any of you need this information, They kill bed bugs!
