Just saw the color link - bought a blazer that color this year, and I really love it. It goes with my grays and blacks really well.

Awesome! My 100% cotton jackets came out nice and vibrant - and I'm planning to do another soon.

I don't think you can go wrong with navy or red - both colors can be worn year round and should go with a lot in your wardrobe.

Here is the orangey-red I'm thinking of:

http://www.joann.com/joann/cat.....emType=sku

It's called deep orange. I figure it will be on trend.

Thanks ladies for the opinions. I'm probably going to go with navy, it is a safe choice. But maybe I will take a look at orangey-reds too. That may be fun. I am trying to add more color to my wardrobe and navy isn't really a color, is it, it's a neutral. So it's between the two colors now.

Rae, the jacket is cotton, 100%, no lycra even. Instructions are dry clean only, I think dyeing it will shrink the jacket but that is OK as it's a little big (not around the hips, though).

I know nothing about dying fabrics but I like the idea to do a navy or dark purple vs black to mix it up.

Denise, is it 100% cotton, or a blend? Kind of looks like some type of jersey based on the pic, but I'm not sure. If it's a blend, you'll have to use two types of dye and that may limit your color choices some. I know of one easy-to-use dye that can dye artificial fibers, but it only comes in something like 5 colors... you can still do a more interesting color that will stick to the cotton fibers, but it would get mixed with the color that sticks to the artificial fibers, creating an effect that is not either bottle color... if that made any sense at all.

Also curious about the fabric in terms of how much heat it can take. The stovetop dye method gets the deepest color but, if the garment might be hurt by too much heat, it'd be better to aim for a more muted color by dying at a lower temp. I used the stovetop with my 100% cotton and silk items just fine.

I love you in the white jacket as is. But if it's not working for you, it's not working. I'm not sure which color would be best I just wanted to wish you luck with this DIY.

So, I have this knit cotton blazer in bright white. I have worn it once. I have the same jacket in black which I have worn to death. I want to dye the white jacket another color so I get more use out of it. Also, white = extremely impractical for someone who lives with 3 dogs, 1 cat, 4 horses and 7 heffers.

#1 -- White jacket
#2 -- Some color options that would work with my wardrobe. I'm also considering navy blue (thanks to Ines who wrote "if you are bored with your things, dye them navy" or something like that). The season for wearing this would be Oct-May; do you have any other color suggestions?
Navy iDye swatch: http://www.joann.com/joann/cat.....emType=sku
Purple swatch:
No Burgandy found, but they have crimson:
#3 -- White jacket, worn the one time.

I have read Rae's blog post about iDye, most helpful! I plan to do it in the off hours in our commercial kitchen. (Does dye stain supposedly unstainable, stainless steel sinks?)
