This DIY project is at least something to keep in mind if you find the right fit, style, quality and sale priced trench that you might have otherwise passed on as being too bland or basic. The nice thing about bias tape is that it comes pre-pressed and cut and everything, you literally just have to tack it down. About buttons, they can get really expensive. Whenever I want to change them on an item, I just go to the thrift store and look for an item in the color I want, purchase that and cut the buttons off and sew them on the new item. It does take a bit of time, but worth it for me. Also, sometimes you can find unique or vintage buttons that way.
