Responding a second time because I realized I had more to say-- when I first joined this forum, I was experimenting with straightening my hair and wearing it long. I've returned to wearing it wavy/curly and it feels so much more like me! I think it fits my personality so much better when I embrace the curls and the waves even if that means it is always a little bit messy.

Obviously we all have our own individual personalities, but I would encourage those with naturally wavy/curly hair to at least give it a try and see how it feels. It can be daunting to figure out the right products and techniques for you but I think it is worth the effort!

I have fine hair that depending on the day is either wavy or curly. I've used a Deva Curl gel in the past but I haven't tried any of the other Deva Curl products. I wash my hair about once a week with Trader Joe's shampoo and conditioner (tea tree tingle). While my hair is dripping wet, I apply a gel, currently Kinky Curly, and then plop using a flour sack towel. I air dry my hair-- my hair just looks better that way. If I have to go out in the cold, I basically "plop" my wet hair into a hat. On days that I bike commute, I "plop" my wet hair into a bandana before putting on my bike helmet and it's funny because those are the days I seem to get the most compliments on my hair...

Sorry for the delay in getting back to my thread. Thanks to everyone who replied to my query.
I will keep you all updated as I try to fit this new way to look after my hair into my routine.

I walk to work each day. I am hoping that this is going to be something I love and embrace. I have gotten a few compliments on my hair so far. People think I have had a perm or something done to it.

Brooklyn - I know what you mean by the frizz on high humidity days as I have the same issue here in Ontario. I bought the no poo and have used it once. They did not have the gell or conditioner. Wish me luck :)

Word Lily - I have seen so many good positive comments about the line so I am hopeful.

Jenn - I have not seen the Toni&Guy wave memorizer product line here. I just invested in some clips to clip my hair as well.

Laura - I am looking forward to trying the intra defining gel, they were out when I bought the no poo. Now to fit this into my getting ready for work and walking to work routine

Gigi - Thanks for the heads up on the naturallycurly.com forum. I will need to have a look at the products you mentioned. I know some of them will be difficult for me to get here in Canada.

Shedev - I just bought my no poo. They were out of the one condition and the gel. Let me know how you make out with the no poo. I find it to be very thick.

JenniferAnne - I am so looking forward to trying the gel, they were all out when I went to our local salon here.

Aida - Thanks for your tips and also the product recommendations. I am on the hunt for the Oribe Curl Mousse. I currently use Joico whipped mousse.

No advice about the Diva Curl products since I don't use them. But I do have fine, thin, curly hair and always style it curly. I use a blow dryer with a giant diffuser since I just can't get the volume I'm after by air drying. If you go that route, you'll want to be sure you use a heat treatment product to help protect your hair from the heat (I just use a house-brand one from my salon). If you're interested in bringing more of the curl out along with using the diffuser, I highly recommend Oribe's Curl Mousse (which doesn't work as well for air drying).

I wash every 3-5 days (shampoo and conditioner, the Ion conditioner below). On wash days, at minimum I use a very lightweight volumizing mousse at the roots and then use the Oribe Curl Mousse at the ends and through the body; also use various other textural products like salt sprays etc. depending on how I feel. On some non-wash days I just put some dry shampoo in (I like the Caviar one below), and on others I'll add a little water with more of the volumizing mousse then re diffuse dry.

I have curly hair somewhere between fine and coarse. I have been using the Ultra Defining Gel and Styling Cream and let hair air dry. Both are the best styling products I've ever used for my hair. Sometimes I use one or the other, or I'll use a combo of both. I also wash my hair 1x/week and conditioner-only on the other days.

I just started to use diva curl. I need to give it more time. I had been using Sexy Curly for about a year. I wanted to try no poo. So far I like it.

I have fine, wavy hair, and I wear it that way (I don't straighten except for once in a blue moon). I occasionally diffuse, but not often, preferring to air dry. Like Jenn, I put clips in my hair to give it some root lift before air drying.

I don't use the Deva products, but I have heard that people either really love them or really hate them--so there's no way except to try them out. I would recommend the forum naturallycurly.com, which has a lot of discussions like this.

For products, I use Oribe Cleansing Cream and Griffin Remedy Volumizing Shampoo to cleanse my hair (both have quite a bit of protein), and I follow with whatever conditioner I feel like at the moment. The conditioners I use most often are Aubrey GPB, Griffin Remedy Volumizing, Andalou Naturals Lavender and Biotin, Mineral Fusion Volumizing, Waleda Oat Replenishing, and Mineral Fusion Curl Care. The first four conditioners I listed have protein high up on the ingredients list, which helps me feel like my hair has a little more structure. (As a side note, I have a lot of chemical sensitivities, so most of the products I use are low on synthetic ingredients.)

For styling, I use Intelligent Nutrients Curly Hair Serum followed by a little bit of Intelligent Nutrients Styling Pomade. I use the pomade to help seal my hair from the humidity, as my hair can get pretty frizzy. Then I put on some InnerSense Whipped Creme Texturizer and a hard-hold gel, usually Max Green Alchemy Sculpting Gel. The Max Green gel gives a good gel cast to help lock in your waves, but it doesn't add a lot of weight to the hair. I personally prefer something a little weightier (otherwise my hair seems to fly around), so I am experimenting with different gels.

Sorry for the long post! If you haven't been to naturallycurly.com, I highly recommend it. It is the only other forum besides YLF that I check daily.

I started to use the DevaCurl ultra defining gel earlier this year and quite like it. I don't use any of their other products, and haven't tried the 'no shampoo' approach. My hair is not fine, though; it's medium but I've got a lot of it, and it's wavy. I air dry my hair most days and use jaw clips to section and twist it after putting in the gel. I'll leave it that way until it's about halfway dry and then take out the clips. That gives me some lift at the roots and some bend to the hair.

I have fine, wavy hair that I often (but not always) dry with a diffuser. I just picked up a tube of Toni&Guy Wave Memoriser that I'm really liking. I live in the opposite environment from Brooklyn. The air is mostly dry here, so I have a hard time keeping my volume/curl with no moisture in the air. The wave memorizer seems to do the trick with just a little scrunch. I've been smoothing it through my damp hair, then either diffuse-drying or just scrunching and clipping my hair on top of my head and air-drying. I always want as much curl as I can get and never straighten.

Hi Rubygirl. I have fine hair that is very wavy curly but I basically just straighten the living daylights out of it until it cries for mercy. I use redken products and occasionally have a keratin treatment. When I was younger I used to use a diffuser and curl enhancing products but I only tended to get a good result on low humidity days. These are rare in my part of Australia. On high humidity days I find it really hard to tame the frizz. So I cannot offer very positive advice! But I will watch this thread to see if others have had better luck

Looking for opinions on hair products. Has anyone tried the line of deva curl products? Have you ever diffused your hair and if so which products do you use?
Do you have fine hair that is wavy curly and if so what products do you use? Do you also take advantage of the wavy curls in your hair and style them?
