Sorry for the delay...been tied up with house guests all week! I have scarcely Been on the forum :(

Maya, pull your bangs straight up...let the bottom layer fall out...that is your length....trim about a1/4 inch off the remaining. This will remove bulk and keep the length:)

I am sorry this stylist didn't work out for you

I can sympathize. I am growing out bangs and it takes forever. Lots of times I want to just cut them because they are in this awkward curly stage.

I would probably not go back but sometimes changing stylists does not work. I think it is about communicating when she gets it wrong. A stylist should be happy to get you exactly what you want- she loses customers if she doesn't. I have often had to tell my stylist if I didn't like something, bring in pictures and give her another chance.I always wait for my next appointment- nothing has needed immediate attention and I do not want to make an extra trip. Now I can say whatever I need to without any discomfort. I would think a stylist would want to know why you do not come anymore. How hard is it to get a textured bang? Did you ask her for textured bangs and she gave you blunt bangs? Then that is a real problem and I am surprised she has any customers. (Just trying to save you time) Maybe it is time for a new stylist.

Audrey Hepburn can get away with lots of things mere mortals can't. Alas, I am a mortal.

They are too short to clip out of my face and my hair never stays in clips or pins anyway.

I think I'll just let them grow a bit for now. If I try to texturize them it will just make them appear even shorter.

I'd find the best stylist around and go for a complete makeover.
It happened to me a few times, and I couldn't wait for it to grow - I changed the whole look.
I found going shorter much easier than putting up with the hair I hate. How about some nice messy crop?

Good call, Kari--I have been obsessed for years with those Audrey short bangs. I would also think of going back, Maya. Since the lady apparently had good technique, maybe it is a communication problem. Bring more photos? Even of your original cut that you liked. I am finding personally that due to weather changes I have to wear my hair differently in winter.

Maya, I have never seen you with bad hair, but I know how it feels when you get an unsatisfactory haircut, especially because you have generally invested a lot of time and money.

If you can bear it, I would try and go back and express your dismay, even if it is only by phone call. From what I remember you do visit a fairly reputable salon - they should offer to try and fix it for free, or give you your money back, or comp you a subsequent visit. If it helps, I would mention that you were encouraged to do this, rather than not visit again, by a forum that you frequent (you don't have to mention which one) - any business should hate any sort of bad online publicity.

Maya, this is completely out there and I don't know if it would work with your bang length, but given your wavier hair texture, short bangs on you made me think of Audrey Hepburn's super-short fringe in Roman Holiday:

How annoying Maya, I can sympathise since I had my fringe I just dont like my hair much at all. Mine is kind of ok but I would prefer it on someone else just not me. I brought a razor comb and hacked into mine to give it a bit more texture without sacrificing too much length. But apart from that I am resigned to trying to cajole it into some semblence of looking ok or pin it up off my face until it grows out.

I keep meaning to go to H&M and trawl through their hair accessories, but haven't had the time. I think it's the combination of bad hair and bad fringe that makes me feel a bit helpless

Hairpins and scarves. Also, parting on the side and sweeping across will help. Or blow drying with a really large barrel brush so they go all bouncy might do the trick.

you can buy a pair of "thinning shears" from walmart/target, and put in some layers. Those are the scissors that have teeth, so it won't cut evenly.

I'm unfortunately going to have to find another stylist yet again. I don't know what happened to mine. She was fabulous the first few times, then gave me a horrible cut. Thinking it was just a fluke, I went back for a bang trim and even that managed to come out horrible. She just cut them straight across. No texturizing. Nothing. I could have easily just done that myself if I wanted to look like I'm getting ready for my first day of kindergarten.

I don't have the time or patience to go back and have it fixed, and anyway, they are too short so I didn't want to risk them getting shorter. I made a few vertical snips with scissors to try and break them up at the ends a bit, but they still look pretty blunt and stupid.

Is there a way to deal with them gracefully until they grow out?
