Okay Angie now we are crushed that you don't actually have an "in" at BR :)

If they would listen to anyone though, I would think that Shiny would be the one they should listen to!

Shiny, if high-tech ever fails you, you should look into combining your love of fashion and skill for marketing by working for BR ... they could use you!

I agree wholeheartedly! Of course, I am thankful that stores like BR actually carry petites now and it looks like more stores are offering them (even if it's just online). I am actually thrilled that our local BR just expanded their petites selection in store. My discovery of AT petites a decade ago totally changed my life. If you recall, the only other options years ago were the dowdy department store offerings. I am bummed that J. Crew doesn't offer any petites in store though and our Norstroms has a very small petite section.

You know, petites should be discounted more than regular sizes - after all, they have to use less material right! LOL!

How frustrating! It is rediculous that the petites are not on sale when the regular size is.

I agree shopping is more limited in the petite section. Not everything in regular comes in petite. AT and ATL are that way as well as Macy's. I am sure it happens with tall people too.

Oh yes and Shiny, you make an excellent point about sweaters that actually fit petites - they are worth spending some $$ on (and this sweater would've been a real deal at abuot $45 on sale!).

Does Angie seriously have an in with the BR CEO? Wow.

Then yes, please relay the message - we love BR petites ... but consistency is key!

Laura, not to put in a spanner, but sweaters are worth spending the $ - if you are petite. Because this is one item that can't be easily tailored. (or if it can, I don't know how to find a tailor who can do it).

I was so thrilled when BR started offering petite sweaters! And in colors other than the most basic black, grey, white, brown too! I think nearly all my cardis are from BR now. The quality is quite nice as well - especially their merino wool.

But yes, Angie, please talk to the BR CEO and let him/her know that petites shouldn't be charged extra. You can tell him/her that shiny says one of the reasons she's a devoted BR fan is that they do petites just right... their sizing is consistent, they offer colors other than boring basics, they have an understanding of petite proportions (you won't see patterns that are too large-scale for petites offered), and if you have the Luxe card they don't charge you for shipping. Which is very nice.... esp if they retract their petites from the stores and only offer them online again.

Maybe they should have a special card just for petite people? Give loyal petite shoppers free shipping AND returns.

From a competitive standpoint, Jcrew and Bloomie's don't carry petites in their stores, and then they ding you on *both* shipping *and* returns if you order and it doesn't fit. At least Bloomie's petite store brands are fairly consistent, but I find that Jcrew's sizing is all over the map.... so I rarely ever attempt to order from them because it's too costly an exercise. At least with BR if I order something I can be about 95% confident it's going to fit.

Oh! How frustrating, Laura. No markdown consistency. I’ll have a word with the BR CEO on your behalf and tell him/her that this is an outrage. How dare they. Naughty sausages.

Yes, Tarzy, I was a little surprised when the woman at BR's 800# put me on hold for a long time (I got hopeful) and then came back with a No. I don't think she even asked if I had a Gap or BR card or anything. I do really like the sweater, but it's a sweater, you know? If it was a jacket or the perfect pair of jeans or something more crucial to my wardrobe I might pay full price - but these days it seems almost foolish, with all the crazy markdowns going on.

Tarzy - I'm the same way, except it used to be, if I waited for a sale, my size would be gone. So I had no qualms about paying full price. But I'm seeing that less and less in the last few months.

I console myself with the fact that by the time it goes on sale, I've already worn the item numerous times!

Wow - that is frustating! You'd think they'd want to make loyal customers happy.

(Lately, when I see something that is PERFECT or that I really love - I will pay full price. It kills me, but I'm trying to buy only things I love, and then actually wear them, rather than have a closet full of discount so-so's that I never wear. But then, of course, it invariably goes on sale and I feel silly for paying full price.)

I have to say, I have noticed that the sale prices at BR online versus store are often different -- usually the better deal is in the store. But my size (larger, not petite) is only available online so I'm out of luck.

That said, yes, you should go back to the clerk and see if she can order it for you.

That sucks!

It may be that certain stores, if they are suffering, have flexibility to discount to move the inventory. Or, the one you saw on sale, if it was just one, may have been a return?

I'd keep watching... I will bet that the price will come down and you'll be able to score this at a cheaper price.

Laura, do you have their credit card? I have a Luxe card, and it's really worth it. Not only do you get free shipping, you get points everytime you use the card, and then they send you rewards cards which can be applied towards sales items!

Er...isn't the link you just posted for the petite sweater? Or is it a different similar sweater or...? I'm confusing myself.

There is discrimination against people on both ends (small and large) who don't fit into the regular XS-L, 0-12 sizing scheme retailers have put together. It's too bad, really. :(

EDIT: Oh, I see what you're talking about now. This is what I would do--go back to the store, tell the clerk you spoke with what happened, and have them call in the order. If the person on the phone still won't do anything, have the clerk talk to a higher up. If I were a clerk in a store that told someone that, I would do everything possible to make sure the customer got what I promised them, you know? And in my previous retail life, my managers always backed me up on stuff like that.

This is mostly for Shiny's benefit, because I know she'll be as *outraged* as I am :)

I went to BR this morning with my son (off school all week, poor kid, has to tag along with mom on errands) and saw that cute cardi that Inge posted on the Mom Wear thread, and it was 40% off! It's brand new!

http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....038;vid=-1

The emerald green would go perfectly with an orphan scarf I own - but there were no petite sizes in store. The clerk tells me I can get it online, free shipping with my Gap card. Guess what? It's not on sale online, and the woman at the 800 number for Banana wouldn't do anything about it.

Maddening! Some people here have mentioned other chains that are also completely disorganized right now - I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience?
