Having just come from Dianthus' home (which is positively GORGEOUS), my vote is for the dusty rose. It's hard to tell with these pictures, but with the light in the room, the rose really brings out details in the fabric, as well as working well with the wood tone in the furniture. And although it's called rose, the colour is really more of a greyish-mauve - not 80's at all.

That's funny, I saw "rose quartz" and I love it! These cool tones really appeal to me. I love the sparkle and the pattern too.

I REALLY like the green. It might be my fav color though A grey with a green undertone is the perfect wall color to me. I lean towards the cool colors too. I think they look more modern. I have to agree, the dusty rose looks dated to me.

Great pics for the room so far. That chandelier will look gorgeous!

Nice room, and you have a great start with the chandelier and mirror!
Honestly, I'm not a fan of the colors. It's a little too matchy matchy for me, and it does look a little dated. For the 20's glam look, what about doing a lighter cool gray with a metallic gold glaze over it? It will still go with your fabric choices, and be oppulent and reflect light.

I think both could work very well, but I also prefer the green for the same reasons as Deb. I do see mauve and dusty rose as being one in the same.

Thanke Deb. Another friend saw the "dusty rose" in the color scheme which is why I posted to get a few more opinions. I am far more sensitive to the peach/green combo of the 80s and never even considered the dusty rose phenomenon. I had decided on the green until I put it in the room. With the east exposure, the green made the wood in the furniture look too red to me.

Does everyone read the mauve as dusty rose?

The mauve color looks very '80s to me. I like the green better. (But, I am old so maybe it is on its way back) Love the mirror and chandy. This will be a beautiful room!!!

I was debating posting decorating ideas here but the principles are the same are they not? We use color, pattern, sheen, and layering to create a feel or vibe in an outfit and in a room.

So I am planning the DR decor. The room is just under 13 x
10 with a bow window facing east and an arched opening to the front
entry hall. The floors are a laminate with wide planks in a hand
scraped finish that also has a grey undertone. The rug in the picture is not staying. I plan to look for something with a geometric pattern in soft subtle color or texture.

I plan to put floor length panels in a silvery grey with vertical seams between the windows and on the ends hung on a 1" pewter rod that follows the angles
of the window. I bought 2" white faux wood blinds that will be inside
mounted. I also bought an antique crystal chandelier and a very large
mirror with beveled frame. This should add texture, sheen, and the jewellery or sparkle.

I had initially planned to paint the walls with CIL Wexford Fog (green grey) with a soft metallic stencil in a circle or geometric pattern. The mirror would hang on the long wall and would reflect the chandelier back into the room and hall. I brought home fabric samples and am now considering using Rose Stone or BM elephant grey - both mauve pink that are greyed down. I will use a metallic paint to mimic wallpaper on the long wall opposite the entry.

I am attaching pics of the chandelier, mirror and room with one of the fabric
for the chairs draped on a chair with the window panel over the back. The fabric has a silvery white floral pattern that I thought added a bit of old world elegance. I put the paint chips on the seat. The pics are in front of the window in late afternoon light. I am going for a bit of 20s glam look with
sparkle and shine but soft colors. The darkest color showing on the middle chip is the Rose Stone that I am leaning towards.

As a bit more info, I am considering using the Wexford Fog in the MBR and the Rose Stone in the ensuite and have deep blue/teal fabric in the great room and dinette area. I lean towards cool colors in general.

What do you think of the color plan? Any other suggestions?
