Well, I have to agree on the pass. I feel that stripe is too wide for a fitted jean.

Thanks, all!

I’m horrified that Angie sees jegging fit here because they do not feel that way, and that is not what I want. But the fact of the matter is that jeans that are straight leg on other people often look like this on me. I hate that, even though I’m grateful my legs are strong.

I have enough jeans that work for me that I’m not going to bother dyeing them, although that’s a great reminder of that creative solution.

Angie, I don’t care for wide leg crops in denim, at least not on me, and I have enough straight leg jeans that I don’t need to shop for more. It would be nice to have a little more variety, but the truth is that I have plenty.

My bootcuts are not getting worn much these days because they’re a bit longer and work best with shoes and a slight heel, and I’m going shoeless in the house a lot and don’t want to drag my jeans on the floor.

These jeans are already in the donate pile — thanks for the feedback!

You might think about over dyeing them in a darker blue (indigo would be nice). The contrast stripe would then be a little lower contrast, if you know what I mean. But it might not be worth it if you are not happy with the fit. I do think they would look more current if the fit were more relaxed/straight. But I do like the concept of the stripe/colour block effect.

They look like they fit well and I like them best with the white sneakers. I think maybe the high vamp makes the pants look a little longer.
Agree that they seem a little short with the other footwear.

I vote pass them on too. The washes are too high contrast, and the fit is
jegging-ish, although they aren't as tight.

I think you need wide crops and relaxed straight legs instead, Janet. That will create the easy fit jeans that you are after.

Thanks, all! Lots of wisdom and ideas here!

There is a certain kind of cool and easy jeans fit and vibe I always *want* but can never attain, because of body type. And I think this type of style works better in that easier fit. I *love* a side stripe effect when the fit is easy because it can be really flattering on someone with my build, but only if the fit is right. Otherwise I get that wavy line effect that just emphasizes the curve on my thigh rather than skimming it.

I think it’s a wise observation that the combination of the tricky detail + the lighter wash make this less than a slam dunk for me. Careful styling can make it work, but I don’t want to work that hard for these, or for any jeans really.

I might keep them to wear around the house to clean, etc, because they are comfy and it can help save my better jeans so those last longer.

Suntiger's comment about a darker jean with a white side stripe is bang -on. That would look great on you! And I agree with others in that it's partially this mid-blue nothing colour that could be the problem - not deep and bold enough for your colouring and overall look.

Are those Adidas Superstars? My heart!
My first thought was Slim Cat’s - try for lower contrast in the top.
Agree with you that sneakers are the best look among the shoes.
I also try to downplay my legs so I wear my crops a little longer than a true crop (not easy to do when you’re tall, I know). FWIW, I’d feel slimmer in solid light denim, though I’m continually trying not to always put traditional figure flattery as my top priority.
It sounds like you’ve made your decision - you have other jeans that make you feel more fab and fit your style, but I’d be curious to see them with a different top.

I agree these boots don’t work, but I love them with the sneakers and sandals
I think part of the issue here is the sweater, for me, these jeans need a shorter or longer top. Yes, shorter, or at least try a semi tuck.

Agreeing with the others. I definitely like your other jeans more on you! The color blocking seems more extreme than most, but altogether more mid tone than your coloring- if that makes sense. I think a full length dark pair with narrower white side stripe would work better.

These jeans look a bit meh to me, best with the sneakers, but I think that’s the first time in 3 years I have ever thought meh about your outfits!
So, I vote either keep just for home/casual with sneakers, or donate.

Janet this is hard, because you never really make shopping mistakes, these are fine, but not as good as your usual jeans. When I opened up the first picture I thought you looked great. Beautiful - with great hair, sweater and boots, I sort of did not even see what was wrong with the jeans. However you have accurately pin pointed why these are not as good on you as your usual jeans and I 100% agree with you. I say donate, I doubt you will ever really feel that great in these and so why not just say goodbye and wear the heck out of the jeans you love before we all have to go back to low rises again.

Laurie, when I wore them in the past, it was always with longer jackets, to your point about styling. But I don’t want to be limited to only wearing something with such a specific topper. If I’m honest with myself, nearly everything in my holding zone was there for good reason. I think I have enough good stuff that I can part with these with no regret.

I have other jeans I love and feel ok wearing without feeling a need to hide under layers. But I really am much better off sticking with certain styles — I just don’t have that narrow-hipped frame that makes jeans look easy-fitting. For the most part I have made peace with having a body that will never play well with al lot of styles I like, but sometimes I let wishful thinking take over... until I look in the mirror, haha!

Having just looked at your other post about boots, seeing you in same sweater and other jeans that are super good on you, I'm going to also vote donate on these jeans.
But - it could be styling...maybe try a few other tops / jackets before final judgement. Something longer?

I'm not loving them on you either. They may feel differently on , but they look too close to the body around the crotch point - which was hard to say nicely . And I agree that the length is awkward - neither here nor there. I'm voting donate.

It's different and I like them with metallic slide and sneakers.
Something light colored and flow-y would probably work too - as sorta cropped spring jeans in a slim fit ( as capri ?..) with a loose topper.

I'm not crazy about them TBH. I just don't love the design.

It's not that they are unflattering so much as body con, which doesn't feel as current as other cuts. I think cutting them off would only emphasize that because you would lose the more current kick crop aspect below the knee. I do agree they look best with the sneakers, which might make them good around-the-house pants if you need that right now. My response might be different for someone with a smaller wardrobe, but I think you have many much better items.
