As a kid, we used to go to the ruby and sapphire mines in Franklin, NC. We actually found some pretty nice stuff. My husband and I took our boys there when they were little..it was paradise. Water, mud, pretty shiny rocks...would love to go back.<br />My only advice is don't bother with a manicure. It will be destroyed. Sunscreen, hat, gloves, and a willingness to get wet and dirty. Of course, every child in this area has gone digging for diamonds at least once in their life. This is the weekend we'll be taking our three boys and 12 year old nephew. I went 30+ years ago when I was a kid. It's a huge field of either mud or hard dirt, depending on the weather. I keep staring at my closet trying to figure out what such an occasion calls for. Suffice it to say that whatever I wear, it probably won't be WIW post worthy! And did I mention, it's really, really hot. Of course, if we find a 10 carat diamond, it'll all be worth it </p>
