FWIW I think these flares are fine too.

I'm not sure there are necessarily 'mistakes' in this case (that only happens when fit is very off or color just doesn't work on someone or something, all these pants look like they fit you well), just different tastes? And maybe different feelings about trends individuals want to embrace or pass on, or are personally at the saturation point with?

For example, for me, I'm not at the saturation point with skinnies, I love 'em. I haven't yet been convinced about pronounced flares in general, regardless of who is wearing them. But that really doesn't matter at all. IMO what matters is what you feel and think about these styles. No-one knows yourself better. :)

Wow, now I'm getting confused. Are these particularly polarizing? I don't want to look dated but like Diana I do like printed skinnies. And I do not want dressy flares. I think I need to start a new thread with more general questions about where I'm going. I am not feeling very successfully 2014.

I really appreciate all the honest feedback so it's not that - I guess straying from my comfort zone is going to involve mistakes.

I think the flares look great. I've had similar thoughts about my thighs in pants like the flares. I think it's just because they're lighter in that area. However, I don't think they make your thighs look bigger.

I'm not as in love with the skinnies as you are. If you can make them work and you love them, then keep them.

I love the flares, that's such a perfect wash!! I ordered the Love Story in the "cosmic" ultra-faded wash, and have my fingers crossed that they'll work. I'm with Angie on these being too high rise for a semi-tuck (but if you want a really 70s look a full tuck will work, as long as the top isn't too puffy). Regarding the actual flare, without side views it's hard to tell how much length needs to go and by result how much the opening will shrink. What footwear are you planning for these? Shorter heeled boots? Something else? The sweater in #2 looks fab with these jeans by the way. The Mother skinnies look good, the photos are making them look on the tight (but not too tight) end. Are you still into super skinnies?

I also see why you are drawn to the skinnies. There's something special about them, and I love the fabric Mother uses. Like wearing jams, almost

Ok so no tucking with the flares! I like the higher waist for the girdling effect though. These are not a heavy denim but they are not flimsy either. The wash looks slightly dirty in reality like a 70s fade.

Sounds like a mixed bag on the skinnies. I will not rip tags until I see how they can be styled. I do love them with a kind of irrational attraction.

I like the flares, great wash for spring/summer, and they are very flattering on you - but I agree that the rise is a bit high for tucking. Printed skinnies I'm not as sure about - I think they look like they fit really great, for me it's just a fear of pattern.

I love the flares. LOVE how they fit you! Thumbs up. No thigh issues. Very flattering.
Not a huge fan of the skinnies -- they are interesting and they fit you well, but they are not really my thing. I think it's a personal taste issue (mine) rather than a comment on how they look on you (which is great). I'm just not really into them, and they don't feel as modern to me.

You look long and lean in the flares. Love #2. Great proportions. Not a fan of the pattern placement on the skinnies.

I'm interested in that decade/year question too, as a diehard fan of wide legs, flares, and classic boot cuts. Is it silhouette? Pattern, fabric, shoes, styling?

Well this is interesting. I really like the flares and am not crazy about the skinnies. And in neither case my reaction has anything to do with the huge thighs I do not see.

I love the Mother skinnies. I do not see the appeal of the flares.

Flares are perfection. Love the color, shape and proportions on you. I find that a somewhat closer fit at the thighs is elongating on me with boot cuts or flares.

The printed skinnies fit well. My only question is the print placement. If you love them, they definitely work for you.

Great options, Una.
