Out of a lengthy post-cardiologist report, the doctor mentions that considering my very serious medical condition "she looks remarkable."&nbsp; I want them all upbeat so I dress that way.&nbsp; And I eventually got my chemo day changed because I had symptoms on the second day after treatment and sometimes my eyes would swell and tear so hard that tears squirted out. My style was never full-on Goth (no black hair...) as I retained my longer blonde hair, but the clothing was a very minimal palette of black with lots of texture through wearing velvet, leather and lace. I dressed like this through my university years, and it was only when I hit the professional workforce that I changed my style to be consistent with what I currently wear. </p> <p>In my first year of working, I remember the thrill of buying a red woollen overcoat (which I called Big Red), the most expensive item I had ever bought up to then even on sale - it was the start of adding some serious colour back into my wardrobe. I loved that coat so much and wore it until it almost fell apart. I went from very long, dark hair to a very short platinum pixie. I put many different colored streaks in my hair. Went for crazy perms.</p> <p>As it stands, I no longer have the time to fight with nature. My hair is dark with very red undertones and doesn't take kindly to being bleached. I have a very long face and I don't look good with very short hair (without the beauty of youth that makes everything look good). Perms are a PITA, and my hair tends to reject them anyway (the curls fall out much more quickly than they should). So I do the best I can with what I have. Since then I have been every trending iteration of blonde, took a detour through strawberry blonde, and then went copper red. I am now a much tamer streaky grey, but to my surprise my hair is much healthier without the dye, and has grown quite long without showing damage. A girl in the dorm lived in Manhattan and came home from a weekend wearing a mini skirt.&nbsp; Having come out of a high school with, typically, so many rules, I found the idea exhilarating and sat down and altered every single one of my skirts.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>I do have some radical hair changes.&nbsp; I went along with a friend to get her hair cut in L.A. when we were teens. I had hair almost to my waist.<br />The stylist claimed I looked like Barbra Streisand - I don't - and gave me a free haircut in a bob.&nbsp; I liked it because of the movement and kept it that way for many years.&nbsp;</p> <p>Another radical hair change not exactly my idea.&nbsp; I started treatment for inflammatory breast disease - metastized - last September.&nbsp; It doesn't make you bald but does cause what they euphemistically refer to as "thinning".&nbsp; What this realistically meant is that hair is dry and fragile and the least little thing breaks it off.&nbsp; I tried apple cider vinegar rinse and the cuticle lay down and the breakage stopped.&nbsp; (cancer in remission since December a year ago but we keep a check on it and it isn't curable)&nbsp;</p> <p>Worse, though, this September I had a fatal heart attack. They had put some electrodes on my head and some well meaning nurses decided to get off the slight adhesive from that.&nbsp; Nobody asked me. I could get that off with the apple cider vinegar.&nbsp; They put a shower cap on my head that had a very gunky shampoo inside it, massaged it, then used a fine tooth comb - which I never own - to comb that out.&nbsp; Of course, they couldn't succeed but only succeeded in tearing out a substantial amount of my hair. Luckily they ran short of time. :D&nbsp; &nbsp;The result is that my hair is thinned - again - because everything is at slightly different lengths.&nbsp;</p> <p>I did have an option of a free wig and the guy was touted as selecting the perfect style for you except that he did want you to shave your head.<br />Nothing doing.&nbsp; And who is he to decide what I think will be perfect for me, Barbra Streisand guy notwithstanding. </p>
