There are more shoes that fit me now than 16 years ago, as I need something to hold my ankles in. No loafers or pumps for me.
So, a year before an event, I bought 3 pairs of shoes. I wore the two black pairs for every nicer occasion until I wore them out. I thought the third pair was a mistake, but now I am loving it even more, especially now that my hair is gray.
I also purchased sandals, first in one color, then a year ago another from Zappos when I found out they were no longer on the Zappos or Nordstrom website. And I just duplicated them.

I don't think I have duplicated booties yet, but I sure have multiples of shoes, sandals and sneakers. Same reasons as others: team fussy feet and hard to find ones that work. I am a shoe person, so I like to have options in different colors and styles. I usually do what Suz suggested: be sure that one pair plays well over a little time before a firm commitment to duplication. Usually, I find one pair gets a bit more wear than other. I am okay with them both being in rotation with somewhat different frequency. I love choice and the hunt for footwear needs to simplified around here.

Those booties are gorgeous.

I've been tempted to for one pair, but didn't. Between foot problems and feet changing size slowly over time, I don't have an accurate grasp of what will feel the least uncomfortable years from now.

Oh, yes. For sure! If you love a style and the fit and comfort is good then why not. Having shoes or booties in multiple colours doesn't bother me in the least.

I've only duplicated boots once -- the same Matisse booties Angie has, but one in the leopard print and one in red. In retrospect, I'm not sure the red ones were the wisest purchase. I haven't worn them much. Also, something about my feet has changed a bit, and they are not as comfortable as they were a few years ago. I have other dark red booties that are not as refined in shape but I wear them more.

I have duplicated sandals -- rose gold and black Cole Haan flat thong-style sandals that have been summer staples for 4-5 years. No brainier! I also have duplicated of some perforated slip-on sneakers, one in silver, one in mint. I have worn both of those quite a bit, but not as much this year as last. And I've duplicated walking shoes (left the old pair at the ranch), and of course running shoes (I think I'm on my eighth pair of Brooks Ghost runners and I dread the day they are discontinued!).

Aquamarine, my feet are fussy too, and I will literally try on a hundred pairs of shoes/boots before finding a pair that fits just right.

Thistle, I think both pairs will be in pretty heavy rotation, as the only booties I have left are two pairs of Sam Edelman's (different styles) and a pair of leopard print Corso Como's. Those are all low shaft/low heel and I do not wear them with dresses/skirts or cropped pants, only with full length pants. Actually this brings up another question, do I care if I wear the same style of boot day after day after day? I suppose I don't, because last year I wore the same booties almost every day, so much so that I wore them completely out. At least this year I'd be changing colors, lol!

Linda, an excellent point! And the answer is yes, if I return the beige booties I will probably wish I hadn't. I started wearing light footwear about two years ago after seeing it here on YLF. I have surprised myself at how often I reach for it because I like it better against my skin tone and it bookends my hair. I also think I'll regret returning the black booties as I like the way they look with my black tights (I actually put on black tights to try them on, on an 85 degree day! Thank goodness for AC!). I wear black tights and sweater dresses a lot in the cold winter months. (I didn't put on my sweater dresses - too hot for that, even with AC! I put on a long tee/sleep shirt for the same effect)

Joy, those ballet flats are super cute, I'd duplicate them in a NYMinute!

And Kelly, ditto for your sandals what I said about Joy's flats!

BC and Kate, it sounds like you have many duplicates in rotation. Sounds like it works very well for you.

Approprio, if there's one signature element to my style it's that I like to inject elements that I consider different or fun. It might be something as simple as eyelet trim at the hem of a dress (like on my red dress from my last post) or as dramatic as stripes going in different directions on a sack dress. They may seem like totally different styles to some, but to me it's that element of fun that I love. These booties fit that to a T. The bow, the heel, the higher shaft - all scream fun to me!

Sterling, the two colors I wear most often are beige and black, with silver running a close third.

Unfrumped, I think I will try out the beige booties first. I mostly wear my black shoes/boots in the cooler months, and I can't quite wrap my head around "fall is coming, winter is not far behind" just yet!

Also echo what Suz said.
If a shoe or boot is new to you and the return policy allows enough time, be sure to wear just one pair enough times to know if it's great - fitting. Of course this requires committing to which color to test out!

YES. I have hard to fit feet. When I find a pair of shoes/boots that meets my criteria, I buy them in every available color. My shoe wardrobe might be boring to others, but my feet are happy.

Here is what I noticed. I still tend to wear one or two colors more often than the others. I have no regrets though.

Gosh, yes! I bought the Paul Green "Ventura" bootie in brown and loved it so much that when the lovely dark gray color became available in my size, I snapped it up without a second thought. They fit perfectly. I can wear them all day. They completely suit my style. I wear both all the time. I did the same later with the Miz Mooz "Cyrus" sandal. Loved the black so much I went out and found a pair in light gray.

Other shoes I have duplicated are Vans slip on sneakers, because they're not expensive and I love to play with color in the summer, and athletic shoes. Again, they must fit so well just wearing them makes me happy.

The question to ask, I think, is if you do return one pair of those lovely "Marilyn" booties...will you wish you hadn't? Will you wish you had the other color in your closet to go with your outfits? Will seeing you have both pair make you smile because you won the bootie exacta, or will you sigh because you doubled down and didn't win?

For what it's worth, I think those booties are lovely!

I several "dupes" on the shoe farm.

Two pairs of George Cox 3705 creepers, black and cognac

Two pairs of New Balance sneakers - not identical, but pretty similar, one pair black/white, one pair red/grey

Two pairs of vintage lace up Oxfords, purchased from a dead-stock job lot, one pair black, one pair white.

The last two pairs were a real find: absolute classics, bench made quality, box fresh and a fiver a pop. Had to have two pairs. Living in the white pair, haven't worn the black ones yet. They'll most likely come out in winter.

I think it's pretty personal whether you do or don't. If you have a signature style and the shoe really works for you, it makes sense. Or it does to me, at least.

I sure have. I have long, narrow feet, so when a great fitting shoe or boot crosses my path, I happily duplicate, or even triplicate. I have the Everybody Falla bootie in dark brown, British tan, and black, and the Cole Haan metallic finish oxfords in both burgundy and blue, and those aren't my only duplicates.

Confession time! I triplicated some Sofft sandals this summer and I've got every version in rotation. I started with the black then when I realized how comfortable they were, I snapped up the other colors that I liked. So yes, I have had great success with this buying technique! Love the Toyshop booties.

Yes, I've done it several times with both boots and shoes. The most recent was Eileen Fisher booty-ish shoes in black and taupe. Boots are ECCO knee highs in black and in brown. I have bought at least 5 pair of Dr Scholls ballet flats...three in pewter and one each in cream and in giraffe print and four pair Me Too pumps in black, red, nude, and pewter patent, to name a few duplicates. Oh, and SE Petty booties.

Well I'm happy to see that others have done what I am considering doing!

Suz, that's a great idea to wear one pair for a while to see if they are comfortable enough to keep both. Also, when I was matching outfits to booties, I just laid out everything on the bed. I should/will do an actual try-on session and take pics, but I have company coming and staying for a week, so I might not get to it until after they leave.

Smittie, I looked at the Max bootie but the heel is even higher - and at 2 1/4 inches with the "Marilyn", that's as high as I care to go.

Aziraphale and Gaylene, those are some cute Fluevogs!

RWS, triplicate! WOW. But hey, if the shoe fits...!

Jill58, maybe I shouldn't let it deter me either...

Diana, one of the reasons I want to keep the beige pair is because it is a hard color to find in a bootie in my best size (8.5N). These aren't a N width, but they are a narrow-fitting bootie. A search on Zappos for white/beige booties in my size turned up next to nothing and always does.

El Cee, you do indeed have a very hard to fit foot. I have often thought the same way about shoes - it's so hard to find something that fits perfectly, and when I do, I should duplicate!

Unfrumped, pants that hang on to boot shafts is one of my biggest pet peeves! I also hate those tabs that they put on the back of some booties for that same reason.

Chewy, the longer I am on YLF, the harder it is for items to earn a place in my wardrobe! I have become very fussy.

Kerlyn, cognac is one of my favorite colors for boots.

The Topshop "Aubergine" was another pair I tried but they were way too big. I might re-order and try them in a smaller size. The screws protruding through the clear heel on those was super fun, but I really like the maximal girly style of the "Marilyn" better.

Not with boots, but I did duplicate a pair of platform, wedge ankle strap sandals in both cognac and black this summer. And I've worn both frequently! Comfortable shoes are worth duplicating, in my book!

I don't have duplicates in "fancy" boots. I do have Timberland waterproof boots in a few colors (navy, taupe, light grey) that I mostly wear birding in winter, but also in town when it's icy.

Regarding these boots, if you like them and they're comfortable, why not?

I do this frequently. Occasionally even triplicate. :) I like having multiple "uniforms" in varying colors. It makes getting dressed easier without becoming boring ... at least for me! I used to feel like I "shouldn't" but I'd always end up regretting it when I forced myself to search for a different style instead of duplicating.

I should also add that I like having lots of shoes -- somehow they appeal to me more aesthetically than any other practical item.

I don't know what to say because I really like both. (No I don't have two of the same boot.)

I know that Topshop has the maximum sock boot which is a little taller and plainer than the black you show here, so you might consider that as alternative to the black ones with the bow.

Am seriously considering both these boots for myself but am waiting patiently for something burgundy to turn up!

Yes, I have done this with Born and Naturalizer booties. In each case I bought black and brown. The distinctive quality of the "Marilyn" booties wouldn't deter me from keeping both--particularly since you already know how you will wear each pair. I would do what Suz advised--wear one pair first to double check comfort.

Yes, I have the Born Arletta oxfords in two colors. I wish I had more (both pairs are very beat up), and have an open ebay search for them in my size. I do also have a third pair of born oxfords that look almost the same (but are not as good!) in a third color.

I have also have the same boots in two colors in the past, but not currently.

I would do this more if more shoes came in colors other than black or dark brown. I don't wear dark brown shoes.

Fluevog lovers unite! :)

I find it interesting that these are distinctive shoes, like the ones you are considering, Karie.

I'd say great fit and comfort are huge indicators...but you haven't really had a chance to wear them yet so the comfort might be lower than expected. Can you hang onto one pair unworn for a little while before deciding absolutely?

The light ones will be near nude/ almost bookending for you, right? While the black will ground your darker outfits.

I would love to see how they look on. Can you take some pics?

I am trying to remember if I have ever done this. I don't think so, not quite, but I can imagine doing so.

Karie -- If a style of footwear works for me, I often buy that style in multiple colors. I have large feet (size 12) with a narrow heel, slightly wide toe box and a very high instep. When I find something that fits really well (especially with respect to boots and booties) it is truly a miracle -- and so I duplicate. And YES -- even if (or perhaps especially if) they are fancy, I still buy multiples (different colors in same style) and duplicates (2 pairs of the same color -- as a backup). No guilt about it. If something is that fabulous and comfortable, I say "keep both colors" -- especially since they both work well with your wardrobe.
