I guess a lifetime of having room in that area makes me more aware of my changing shape.</p> <p>To those who commented on the high contrast and “drama”: These are the things I need pointed out to me. They are so obvious to others, but I just don`t see them until I am instructed. I guess I do like drama (maybe not always, but certainly sometimes), which might substitute for dressiness in a case such as this.</p> <p>The event was a candlelight wedding reception. Our next event is a charity benefit. Thanks to unfrumped for the wisdom of living with what we have. I kind of didn`t buy a new dress on purpose because I wanted to discipline myself to be practical. COULD I have bought one? Yes. SHOULD I have? Another question altogether. Anyway, the panic of maybe not having a fallback made me order the Maje (plus it was an additional 30% off after the half price sale). I was not entirely prepared.</p> <p>I saw a Maje dress online (which I have since ordered) that I thought would be perfect, but I didn`t want to spend the $ at the time, so I did not buy it in advance. Of course, come bewitching hour yesterday, I wished that I had.</p> <p>I did pull this very old Antonio Melani out of my closet—which I had never worn. I matched it with black accessories (gold and black pick up my hair colors perfectly) and added the brand new Loft necklace I discovered on YLF finds for a staggering $20 on sale. The pumps are a high quality leather from Lands End. Again, not glamorous (and almond instead of pointy toes, which doesn`t help), but wearable and “blendy” (as in blends in).</p> <p>In all honestly, I would have preferred a more semi-formal look. But I did not stand out as inappropriate—my lowest bar for whether or not I made the mark. </p> <p>Thoughts? PS—this outfit shows the challenge we women face as we age. If the dress was snug anywhere, it was in the waistline, of which I have little control these days. I love traditional hourglass silhouettes, but will need to be mindful of new shapes in the future. This is not body hate (far from it—I`m happy with what I have), just an objective observation of what will make me feel fab in the next 50 years. </p>
