I am only partway through, but it is already quite moving.</p> <p>My mother struggled with depression her entire life. One thing she always did was make sure that every day she got cleaned up, did her hair, chose a nice outfit, put on a tiny bit of makeup, and got out of the house, even if it was only for a walk or a trip to the grocery store. That self-care and activity did a lot to keep her going and connected to the world, especially after losing my father when she was just 63. I totally agree that the image we most want to project to the world is also the one we need to project to ourselves.
