Another vote for D'Orsay flats. I find them comfortable and a bit sexy as they show some foot. Good luck on finding a good red or purple flat though.

Excellent excuse to go shopping! But I'm no help with brands. Cute as ballet flats are, they don't go with my style and my heels slip out of them anyway. I've never actually owned a pair. I do like both the pointy-toed and round-toed versions, though -- perhaps pointy-toed a little more. (Funny how your hubby isn't a fan of round toes -- goes to show, we all have an unaccountable poison eye for something).

Last season I replaced my ballet flats with D'Orsay flats. I'm not sure they fit the "comfort" criteria you've laid out, but you might give them a try.

One word of caution, I also find the very snub-nosed ballet flat not my favorite look, but pointy toes can be bad for your... toes. So think about foot comfort and health as we rush into what makes our "legline" and feet and so forth look "right". The problem is the toebox and the support to keep your foot from smashing itself into the pointy part.
I've had some luck with a slightly higher vamp, giving a bit of bullet-shape rather than so snubbed, and some oval shapes. And elements that make the shoe look a little more substantial, maybe a 1/2 inch stacked heel. So, less ballerina-like.
You might also try another whole direction, a loafer or slipper flat, which are more built up and intended to be more substantial.

I have 2 pair of mildly pointy flats and really can't afford, foot-wise, to go too deep into pointy for my footwear.

I have pointy or almond toe flats on my shopping list, too. DH hasn't mentioned anything (and I think he actually likes the round toe ballet flats) but I've noticed most of my pairs are looking quite worn and could use a refresh. I think I will try one pointy toe first and see how it goes. Thing is, my silver flats get the most wear so I have to be smart about what color I buy if intended to be a replacement.

Of course the ones that really caught my eye were the AGLs Angie showed on Thistle's thread last week. I am debating one super pair versus several so-so ones. I haven't had the AGLs on my feet (afraid to for fear they'll come home with me) so we'll have to wait and see.

Good luck and please keep us posted, I would be interested to see what you find.

I don't have a lot of suggestions but just commiseration- my husband is also not fond of the rounded-toe flat (although I love them for their MOTG practicality). I'll be following this post to see what advice you get!
I added one find that I've been considering.

Last night my DH said he knows ballet flats are classic, but that he hats them on me.. I asked why and what do you know he's objecting to the round toe... Funny as I had not told him that my focus for this year was to add a few more pointed or almond toe flats into my MOTG looks.. He however suggested that replacing the colors I have in ballet flats was in order... I will have to do so slowly and opted not to replace every color, but purple and red are a must..
I want comfort, nice rubber soles and some padding like my Aerosoles in similar price point...
Any suggestions?
