Joy, THANK YOU!!! I thought so, and now I feel so much more confident!! I love the Angie knot, and I bet it would work with the shirt I've pictured here, since the knot is so nice and full. I'll just leave the shirt partially unbuttoned over a white camisole to create a deep v and wear the scarf like that, I think.
I actually found a site that gave instructions on how to tie a silk scarf into a windsor knot. That was fun to experiment with, too, but the penny dropped for me when I realized the overall shape felt similar to the Angie knot, seemed more feminine and was a whole lot easier!

Michelle, you are right that Angie uses her knot tied close to the neck. She has the ends of the scarf inside her shirt rather than hanging out so that just the knot shows at the throat. (The scarf is tied around her neck inside the collar.)

I went back to look at scarf tying sites and could not find a good description for the ascot. Most were just a half knot fluffed out and ends tucked under the shirt. It probably would not stay put that way nearly as well as the Angie knot or Ornella's way.

Bumping this again, since I'm thinking of wearing the same sort of outfit tomorrow -- this time pairing the white ruffle shirt (pic 1) with my black pencil skirt and a turquoise scarf.

Bumping in case anyone has more to offer...reading old posts, I grew more confused. It sounds like Angie's cravat-style just involves wearing the Angie knot close to her neck?

Great It's been a pleasure.

Full lenght scarf, start off buy putting it around the neck, ends pointing down.

I'm guessing this can be done with any scarf as long as you fold them to resemble a cavat to start with... or with the square scarves you can use this technique to tie the ends only.

I'm sure once you master this tying, you'll find many ways and scarves to use it on

This is very helpful, Ornella, thank you! One qustion -- do you fold the scarf in half before going through thos emoves, or do you leave it full-length? Does cravat-style tying only work with specific scarf shapes?

Oh dear... as a non-English speaker by birth, but coming from where the cravats were invented, below is my contribution. Some terms may be wrong, but they are the best I can. I have my husband's cravat out to practice :)

1. Assuming that you'll need to do this a few times to get the final lengths of the two ends as you like them best, start by putting the scarf around the neck and having two ends of the scarf pointing down. Hold each end with the respective hand.

2. You'll do most of the work with the right end of the scarf, while the left ones are mostly still and keep things in place.

3. Take the right end and put it under the left one...

4. ...then over and back to where you started from (i.e. to the right side). Right now your right end of the scarf itself is pointing to the right.

5. It's probably a good idea to put the finger of your left hand at the part where two ends cross each other, as if to keep them in place (thumb underneath and another finger on top).

6. Top half of the scarf is now forming a loop around your neck.

7. Now take the right-end of the scarf, put it around the right top part of the loop...

8. ...and finally thread it through the new loop that had formed itself at the place which you are holding with your fingers to keep things in place (as described in step 5).

9. Tie the knot as firmly as you like.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for these, guys. The problem is that due to my blindness, I can't really follow instructions that are strictly visual and/or lacking in detail. It can be frustrating at times like this!

I was just browsing thefashionspot and came across this scan from a book: http://img399.imageshack.us/f/chic3nb5.jpg/
It suggests to fold the scarf thin and tie it like a man's tie - instructions are incomplete though

Today I'm wearing my white ruffle shirt from last year's NAS over a lace-trimmed white camisole. I've paired it with boot-cut denim, black heeled ankle boots, my silver leaf bracelet and crystal drop earrings. For some reason I felt like bringing out a light, silky, orangy-red scarf today, thinking that a cravat-style tying would work without competing with the ruffled front of the blouse. Problem -- I'm not sure how to tie it! Do I do the Angie knot closer to my neck and then just tuck the ends under the blouse? Tie a different knot altogether? Help welcome!
