I wasn't able to snag the denim color before it ran out in my size so I have the velvet green color instead, which I also love. I share the apple tendencies and I think a back zip is perfect!!! I much prefer that or a side zip to the bulky front zip. Also, I wanted to recommend that you look for a pencil skirt with a little bit of taper to it. Since you are staightish on the bottom (as I am too), I find that a slight taper gives a better shape and is more attractive.
