Hmmm, lots to think about. Ok, maybe cropped is not the way to go LOL. I think you all nailed it re: the fabric. I will do some exploring.

I have a large bust, but narrow shoulders, and am only 5' tall.. I found a denim jacket at JCPenney last year that I love. It is not cropped because I find that cropped jackets emphasize my bust and make me look larger -- almost as though I have outgrown the jacket. LOL I think it is a farily typical denim jacket (with pocekts) that I wear open, but could technically be worn closed. I wanted to make sure that the jacket could at least look like it could be closed even if it might be somewhat tight when closed -- again to avoid that shrunken/outgrown effect. I was a little concerned that it might be a little big in the shoulders, but I wanted enough room to wear it over thicker sweaters during the winter as well as over thinner tops. I live in FL so a denim jacket works as winter outerwear here. I miss wearing it now that it is too hot here for jackets. I always got compliments when I wore it.

I wouldn't go too cropped. I find that cropped things on a large bust just makes it look larger. I think your best bet is to try on a whole bunch and judge by looking. Some lengths will be better than others. Also, wear it open to create horizontal lines that minimize the bust. (although jean jackets are always worn open, no?).

I was fortunate enough to find a denim jacket at the Canadian store Reitmans a couple of years ago. I had been looking for ages and the fit has always been a challenge.
I also have a white denim jacket (YLF and Angie approved) from Jessica Simpson.

I've bought more than my share of denim jackets. I agree with Elizabeth that cropped is often not the best style because it makes us look too square. I have rid my closet of all but three--a white one from American Eagle, a black one with pleater sleeves from AT and an old faded Hinge one. The key for me is the fabric. It needs to be soft and stretchy otherwise it looks/feels stiff.

I find on me, I need a longer one. Cropped makes me look like a square, as my shoulders are pretty broad. I recently purchased one at the Gap, that seems to fit me well. As well as one will, anyway

There was a conversation about this not long ago -- someone looking for a denim jacket that would flatter a larger bust. You might check the archives. Various people weighed in, with many saying that they wore the classic one despite having a larger bust and it seemed to work for them -- the trick being to wear it open and to get the proportions right. I do think that if you have a large bust, the extra crisp fabric of denim might be a sticking point, so if you could find one that is softer (or wash it a lot) that might help?

I don't know that cropped is necessarily better, but I would assume if you want to wear with skirts and dresses, it could be. I'm your height but have the opposite bust issues, LOL. However, I am also short-waisted. I find that so-called cropped jackets usually hit me at my true waist, and since there is not a lot of real estate above that on me, that's just as well.

I've also had luck in the kids' department of Old Navy. Seriously. If you don't plan to wear your jacket closed then you might, too.

I have no suggestions other than to commiserate. I am also an IT with a large bosom and I have never found one I feel comfortable in. I think it's the chest pockets, as you say. Another style that doesn't work on me is the classic asymmetrical Perfecto-style moto jacket. I stick to bombers and tailored blazers.

I haven't worn a denim jacket in years, not really liking the look on me. Now that I better understand my body type, I realize I may not have found the most figure-flattering one.

So, please help by naming some brands that might work for me. I am a 5'4" busty IT. I have a strong shoulder line and a relatively short neck. My height, such as it is, is in my legs, not my torso. So a more cropped jacket may be better than a longer one. Or not? And those darn chest pockets...maybe that's the real issue.
