JAileen - utility jacket is a great idea - I will look for one as I often don't carry a purse, but I still am having lust for a classic jean jacket if I can find the right one.

jill55 - you are probably right about trying a lot on - and it sure helps to have all the suggestion from YFLers as to ideas so I don't just flounder.

jenni NZ and lisap - Thanks for your thoughts - dissenting views can be so useful! I thought it was a good start when I tried it on in the store - I was drawn to it being a bit different, particularly because I haven't found classic denim jackets to look good on me. I think Angie et al. are looking at it from a more "what is current" fashion perspective. I was after all in Style & Co. which is not a particularly fashion forward line - I think of it as more basics. And their comments are encouraging me to have a more open minded abut the more classic style. I may be overly judgmental about my own fit /shape issues (harking to lisp's excellent thread). But your comments also encourage me to reserve the right to get one like this if I end up liking it better. I'm just going now to experiment first and not settle for the first thing I see.

Angie - Thanks for this comparison. I may have to order on line as I may not get to a Nordstroms for weeks. I feel guilt and frustration with the order/wrong size/cut/return/try again cycle so I too often settle. But the dearth of my size in stores is going to have to make me suck it up!

MomofThhree 1980 - Thanks for the first comment on the wash. I haven't been sure, but looking at the pictures I think it looks fine with the darker jeans - it is different enough, and I think it will be versatile.

I love the wash on you! I have no clue about the cropping, short/long, etc though as I've not kept up with the denim jacket trend. I just know they are cute.

The Vince *generally* doesn't fit as well as the KUT, Karen13. I've had both on a slew of clients - on Friday in fact - and the KUT wins out most times. More comfy, and a better all round fit because it moulds to the body better. But you should try both - just to be sure.

I have to admit I am stumped by why this jacket is considered "not right". I looked at this when you first posted it , and then thought about it more over the weekend...kind of frustrated by denim jackets as a whole. Some of us can't wear short , cropped jackets, and having a fitted style with a curved hem *sounds* inherently more flattering. So I won't be hip and cheeky with mine, from the sounds of it. Still not sure I know what to look for.

It took me ages to find a denim jacket that I liked and then eventually I found and bought two. One is from Eddie Bauer, a darker wash and quite fitted. I wear that with skirts and dresses. The other one is a lighter wash and slightly oversized. It came from Target. I wear that one when I want several layers underneath. I wouldn't buy one that I had to alter. There are so many denim jackets out there. I too found many of them to be too boxy. Unfortunately, I think it's a lot like jeans--it sometimes takes trying on quite a few to find the right fit.

Karen, have you considered a utility jacket? They generally have lots of pockets. I like them for that reason, although I like jean jackets, too.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I will remove the jacket from the shopping cart and slowly back away. While I am not sure I am either hip or cheeky, Angie, it is good to have goals!

Ryce - thanks for pointing out that logo. I will have to see if it bothers me. I've been known to take a sharpie to logos on my black gear jackets.

I have never been comfortable with cropped items because my high waist means the crop often hits me where I am starting to widen. But maybe that is OK and it is just my eye that needs to adjust. I do really love functional hand pockets (I lose my keys a lot!) which are missing from the Kut. But I will try to approach this with an open mind!

I am resolving to ask more questions and post more items before I purchase or cut off tags, for exactly this kind of help. And even I figured when I posted the pics that the small looked better - funny I didn't see it so clearly in the mirror.

Angie and all - how does this Vince jacket (pockets!) compare to the Kut, especially in petites. Review say it runs large and to size down, and the fabric content is a little different.

I tried that Kut from the Cloth jacket in petite and it was perfect, EXCEPT I couldn't get past that prominent logo embroidered across the back.

One of the great mistakes of my year was not buying a Kut From The Kloth denim jacket when it was on drastic markdown. They are so much nicer than the traditional boxy ones. Angie and her clients wear them so she knows what she is talking about.

The small is very flattering, so you're on the right track with the silhouette. But I don't like the curve at the bottom of the buttons or the little flare at the hip. It's a good look on you so keep searching!

I think Angie's got you covered. :-) My thoughts were that the small is definitely better, but still not "the one". Try to find another that is more cropped and even more fitted. You will probably RARELY wear the jacket buttoned, so it should look good when it is open and that means even smaller.

I highly recommend that you try these, karen13 - and in a petite if you can get it. It's going to be a great look on you.

I would really like to find a flattering denim jacket (all my jackets are gear), so advice please! I find the classic style is super boxy on me. For sleeve length, I must wear a petite. I haven't owned one since college.

How does the following silhouette look on me? It nips in at the waist a bit, which I think is good. 1 and 2 are the PS, and 3-5 are the PM. I didn't get a shot of the PS unbuttoned, but it looked better that way than the PM - I would probably wear it unbuttoned mostly. Does the little flare at the hip look dorky? I might be able to alter the side seams, as they are not top stitched, but the hem top stitching might be a pain the match.

If the silhouette passes muster, what wash should I get? I found it in the store in a very light blue wash as well, but no pic or find. The lighter color might wash me out a bit.

Does this medium wash look OK with the darker Levis? I haven't done a lot of denim on denim.

If you have other candidates please feel free to post.
