ChristelJ- Thank you for your gracious comment. Refine footwear or more rugged, its always interesting to hear how others might style a similar outfit to make it their own.

Graceful and confident, dressed with ease and elegance while being down to earth at the same time, that's what I see here. Your formula suits you so well. I am also a fan of wearing cardigans with high waist denim, but my footwear is more rugged and clunky. Your refined footwear does add something I think of as a French touch.

Great outfits however you want to label them!

I think of French style as considered and intentional (especially when it looks "effortless"!) with excellent posture and a lot of self awareness. All of which I strive for to some extent.

Bonnie- I don’t wear blazers much anymore, this sweater jacket is as close as it get these days. Love your soft neutral colour palette.
Star- I too always have some classic element in my outfits.
Angie- Yep you're right, I could use a nice light neutral belt
Lisa - Straight leg jeans are classic french style, but I am also seeing wide legs now in the mix too, and I thought why not combine barrel jeans with some iconic french elements just for fun.

These are some great French inspired outfits! I really enjoy the nod to today's fashion with the wide leg and barrel jeans, and the French top half with a layered cardigan and stripes. I used to sport this formula of cardigan and stripes quite often years ago in business casual settings. It's so easy and comfortable.

You look FABULOUS, Dee! These outfits would have worked well for your London trip too.

So with Suz. You wear wide legs with the best of them! You wear cardigans very gracefully :)

You might enjoy a light neutral belt to match your light shoes. Super cute casual classic loafers!

I like this combo, too. I often wear a jacket, coat, or blazer over my jeans and sweater for a lunch date then replace the jacket with a cardigan when I get home.

Suz- Haha, I knew someone would eventually question what exactly defines french style but I think its just a specific set of elements that both you and Runcarla have already mentioned i.e.classic tailored basics, limited neutral palette, Chanel inspired designs, refined footwear like ballet flats etc.. that when combined together help to create a simple, elegant and timeless look.

Yes! I’m drawn to the aesthetic that’s termed ‘French chic’. The classic styles, restricted colour palettes, touches of luxe, patina of age - but mostly the mariner stripes!

Dee, you wear wide legs with the best of them!

I never fully understand what is specifically "French" about French style, except maybe it qualifies as "elevated" in the sense that we've been talking about on another thread. Denim plus -- higher quality jacket or loafers or a pretty flat or a silk shirt or .. or ... or. Also classic?

Or maybe it's polka dots and mariner stripes?

In any case, I am attracted to this and do incorporate it into my style.

And all of these look fab on you!

I've always intuitively gravitated towards french style, I love its simplicity, elegance and versatility. There's an ever present timeless quality to this style that always draws me in but being in Canada and living in the suburbs, my look is never quite textbook Parisienne french style either. I just simply use it as an inspirational guideline that I often have to adapt to suit my real lifestyle and environment.

Cardigans and jeans have always been staples in my wardrobe. Here are my 3 "french chic" inspired cardigan and denim looks that I'll be wearing this season.

1) Wide- leg jeans, cream pointelle top, long brick-coloured open tailored cardigan and beige mary janes.

2) Straight-leg Levis 501s medium wash, navy polka-dot tee, striped cropped Uniqlo sweater jacket and black loafers.

3) Mango barrel jeans, striped tee, pink cropped ON shaker cardigan, with blue loafers.

BONUS: I love how I will be able to easily mix and match any of the denim with any of the other tops and cardigans too.

Anyone else a fan of French style?

Or is there another particular fashion style aesthetic that you find yourself drawn to?
Do you incorporate it into your style in some way?
