Thanks, ladies. I was a bit taken aback when my sister asked me about it, but it does seem to make sense, once I think about it. It sounds like she could go whichever way she is comfortable.

It is exactly so that you can go the bathroom ! Less expensive brands have no opening, so you have to take them off, which can be a struggle. The more expensive, like Spanx, have a flap. The idea is not to wear underwear. I say that your sister should do whatever makes her feel comfortable. If she wants to wear underwear and either has a large bladder or doesn't mind taking off the shapewear, then go ahead. Personally, I find it a pain to put on and take off and put it back on, so I like the flap version sans underwear.

It's to ventilate your delicate lady parts. I don't have any shapewear like this but it seems like it would be a good idea. I would wear my own underwear underneath.

I would imagine that is exactly what it's for, Becky. Actually, it sounds like a smart idea, since those things are so hard to get out of.

I'm asking this question for my sister, who bought some shapewear recently. She noticed at the first wearing that they are crotchless. (Apologies to those of you who dislike that word. I'm not crazy about it myself.) For those who have more experience with this type of garment: Are you supposed to wear underwear under them? Is the crotchless feature so one doesn't have to struggle out of the item to use the restroom each time? Many thanks!
