Hmm, now I have fond memories of the bright orange cotton overall shorts that I loved. I can't remember, though, at what age I wore them. But I can picture them working in a similar, possibly somewhat more flattering way on the right person...

Not that I would ever try it these days!

Don't laugh, but I actually have these farmer johns -- held onto since c. 1968! In Scouts, we cut off the legs and wore these as our uniform when we were day camp counselors. I haven't worn mine probably since college in the early '70s. Wearing them scandalized my relatives -- which is probably why I've refused to let them go!!! Since they are so loose, I can still get into them, although my weight isn't that much more since those high school days; it is just distributed differently. Overalls are a hassle in the bathroom, esp. if you put anything in the front pocket. Mine carry great memories. . . .

I cannot go there (wore them in the '80s with long johns underneath, then wore them again when I was pregnant and postpartum), but if you are smitten, then go for it!

Mochi, she has tons of dough (lives at home with her apparently very wealthy parents) and wears very high-end designer stuff. The conceit is that what is trendy is oftentimes not what is conventionally "flattering" or attractive, by mainstream or male standards, and she embraces it. So, tons of layering that obscures her shape, unusual silhouettes, etc. that are very chic by of-the-moment style standards, but very odd or homely by mainstream or "typical male" standards. Hope that makes sense :)!

I still have my pair from 1991! I bought them in a super expensive boutique on Martha's Vineyard and I loved them to death. Since then they have been my paint outfit of choice (many colors of splatters on them as proof) and served me through both pregnancies. Have I made them unsexy enough for you? They are totally fun and you are young and hip and could get away with them, but you MUST wear a long blazer to cover the rear view. It's horrendous regardless of fit and form.

Mm. No. I don't think this counts. Manrepeller makes them look good by covering them entirely. Without the jacket... it's a bad early '80s flashback.

I just don't see the attraction to something like this. I guess I'm not funky enough. Years ago I saw a dainty young lady wear a pair of these overalls and carrying a little girly handbag. I thought to myself that there is just something wrong with this picture. Also my daughter was in high school during the 90's so wore the huge baggy overalls which really didn't make sense to me either. I wore them to work so maybe that is why I have a bad reaction. My guess is that they really are man repellers.

You are right, it is not a flattering look, but she did make them look a bit more presentable by dressing them up. Still, her butt looks like a saggy diaper, just not a look I can get behind (no pun intended, ok maybe a little intended :wink wink:).

A look I would leave to the 20-somethings though.

I was into this look in the late 90s. I had a pair of black overalls, cropped length but made out of silky rayon. I loved them, they were so comfy and I thought I looked pretty cool in them. I was not into flattering looks at all back then. In fact I also frequently wore cropped flares that were printed during that period. My lust for printed pants continued into the 00s but I haven't found the perfect pair this time around. Anyway, sometimes I miss my former self that didn't give a hoot about figure flattery. I am a good 10-15 pounds heavier now and older, might have something to do with that. And taking pictures of myself!

OK sorry for the thread hijack. You would look cool in these Anna! I think getting the length just right for your legs will be what makes it work.

Ha. When I was in junior high back in the late 70's, these were actually trendy for a brief time. Did not own them....I don't think they would do a large-busted girl ANY favors. That said, some women may be able to pull off the look with very well-thought-out styling such as your pics demonstrate. They may still repel men, but as long as we think we're cute, that's all that matters, right?

ETA: Honestly, they're better not gussied up with a jacket. That's just not working for me.
