lol alaskagirl I saw something that similarly I had trouble mentally processing the other day. White underlayer camisoles worn as tanks, okay, they are kind of see through and bodycon and your bra strap shows, but I can hand-wave all that, you do you. Even with a black bra underneath. Please, please reconsider wearing a bra covered with little cutesy patterns that I can clearly see through your top though, I caught myself zoning in for a split second and trying to figure out if they actually were teddy bears holding hearts, I almost walked into a rack.

Just to add, there are quite a few things I have a poison eye for (more than I realized as I continue to add to the list) but those tend to be items I personally wouldn't wear, rather than styles I can't abide on anyone. Now, pantyhose as leggings.... o_O

I think some of it works - because it's fun and just different. The fringed jeans Una has been looking at are pretty great and perfect for her style. I don't wear much overly distressed styles because it just sort of makes me feel too unpolished - probably because I have such a casual style and lifestyle and sort of long (sort of messy) hair. That said, I do have one pair of slightly distressed faded jeans that I wear sometimes and a chambray shirt that has more of a distressed look.

First thought: never met a trend I didn't love. It's like a game, a challenge. Looking appealing is a secondary goal.

Second thought: the new reality has all to do with trash. We've generated a lot of it, and now we need to do something with it. Overlook the irony that all this stuff is new - it's just maybe kinda the source of the look.

I have had these same feelings about home decor styles. The newer ones all look like trash to me, formed by unskilled hands. More arranged in an attempt to please than to craft something inherently pleasing.

Not to be all vicious and nasty or anything, but I'm wondering why I ever bought a tie dye pillow for $30

That style is not to my taste, either - far from it - but if others enjoy the look, then why not? If I've learnt anything from my time here on YLF, it's to be more open-minded about other people's sense of style. Please don't lose friends over a fashion trend.

That's certainly not my style. I don't like to look like I'm wearing old, worn-out clothes. That said, it's just a style preference, and not worth losing friends over. I wouldn't even tell a friend I don't like it. I would simply say it's not my style and let it go at that.

I have a very good friend who I think dresses horribly. She wears nothing but hiking clothes and Teva sandals, no matter the occasion. I laugh about it, but I wouldn't give up our friendship over clothes.

People are always looking for something new to try, so you just have to roll with it. I think it's a shame to lose friends over a fashion trend, though. What's up with that?

It's sometimes called having a 'poison eye' here, and not worth losing a friend over, since it's just a personal style preference. Plus it's relevant to your choices about what to wear, but not really anyone else's to my mind. Do you sew? Is that why friends bring you clothes to alter or fix? That's nice of you to do for them. :)

I like a more polished look myself right now, so am not as into it for my own jeans. Heh, but I feel like every couple of years there is something DIY you can do to your jeans that either works out or doesn't. I remember splashing them with bleach and overdying them many many years ago. My takeaway is people should get out the scissors, sandpaper and dye with jeans they don't mind ruining if it goes south or they tire of it, and it's all good.

I had that same reaction initially, but I have now warmed up to some distressed/destroyed/deconstructed items. I really like the frayed released hems and own a couple pairs of jeans with this feature… And a few others with rips, distressing and patches. It works well with my boho side. But I agree that the look is not everyone's cup of tea.

Have you ever found a trend you couldn't help but hate? No matter how many people you see in it, how many friends show you how cute they think it is, how often the blogger you once thought were awesome promote them on their posts, you just can't stand it?

I really, really, really hate this style of jean hem. They're super trendy, with every second fashion blogger going on rants about where you can buy them, and a lot of my friends have been youtubing how to do this with the jeans they already own. It's the deconstructed look. The new "boyfriend".

Some wear out the backs, some create fringes, some roll up the front and unpick the back, or roll the back and cut up the front - fringes can look cute done right, but most girls just try shredding the jeans they already have, only to ruin them and, when the trend is over, come crying to me to fix it. Of course, many a friendship has already been ruined by the fact that I really, truly, sometimes just can't.

It's making me feel dated and old fashion, but I just don't understand why anyone would want to look like they're wearing someone else's trash.
