I personally LIKE the top and skirt together but for me what is not working is the footwear. I would wear that with tougher flat boot(ie)s (in my case cut-out ones!) or at least some more casual or masculine footwear. Or wear the skirt with the same footwear but a loose top, as others have suggested. Just a thought.

You have all been so helpful, thank you! I kind of knew this outfit didn't work, but I am glad I posted it anyway, I knew I would get some good suggestions: Looser/drapey/oversize top or slim fit gentle hourglass solid top and denim/moto jacket, and probably don't pattern mix with this skirt. The booties work with this skirt.

You ladies are my fashion rock stars

You can't, because the bombshell is YOU. You could wear a potato sack and still be a bombshell. Even the booties are sexy. So that aside, if you want it to be less... in your face sexy I'd go with a slouchy sweater on top. I gotta tell you, I do love the pattern mix.

Karie, the line you achieve here is a gentle hourglass which I think looks lovely. It's not vavoom to me.
I am almost won over by the pattern mixing - if the top did not have lettering on it I think the rest of the motif might just work with the lace. But there's already the border on the lace skirt anyway, so maybe that is not the skirt to pattern mix with.
The overall line, including the boots, is one I find very appealing.

I love the pieces, but maybe not together. Suz' idea of adding another layer like a boxy denim jacket, a bomber etc i sgreat, it would de-bombshell it further. Great booties! The buckle is an interesting detail, and the heels are beautiful.

I agree with Caro:). I love the skirt and also the top but for me they just don't quite work together. The drape or slight oversize is what's missing do de bombshell:)

The top reads as really form-fitting. I would try an oversized black sweater.

Great ideas, ladies! Echo, I also thought the pattern-on-pattern was a little much when I looked in the mirror. And Suz, I like your denim jacket idea.

..."without a lot of bombs to shell" - HA! Me too!

What Caro said. Another way that I, as a relatively straight hourglass (without a lot of bombs to shell) have successfully de-bombshelled a pencil or tube skirt is by wearing a fitted top but with a boxy denim jacket over that as a topper; wearing with a button down shirt; wearing low heels, flats, casual sandals, or Hi-Ness Cons or more casual booties.

IMO, the pattern on pattern is too much, bombshelling aside. I would pair it with a looser black sweater if you want to tone it down a little.

Thanks, Caro! The top is loose fitting but the fabric is somewhat thin, so it drapes close to the body. I do have some drapier (is that a word?) tops that I will try.

I could have this wrong but my take on de-bombshelling is to wear something looser on top to take away from the figure hugging quality of the skirt? If that's right then I'd say the top is too body fitting to make this de-bombshelled Do you have a more drapy top you could try? All the individual items look good but more bombshell than de imo.

I'm attempting to debombshell this skirt. Does this work? Seriously, you won't hurt my feelings if you say "NO" - but keep in mind that my hair is a mess and my make-up is shot, so it's really only half-styled. Suggestions for how to debombshell it?

Booties are new, from TJ Maxx. Sorry to be such a fourm hog tonight, but I do value your opinions
