Fun mix of textures here. Using the textured top as a layering piece is a clever idea. And look at those braids, wow, very pretty. Defintely snow queen hair! I can do a French braid for my hair (when it's long enough to braid) but that's as far as my braiding skills go.

And I do adore a good riding boot and these are wonderful on you!

I also second adding a metallic and burgundy bag to your wardrobe. Both will work very well with the outfits I've seen from the urban snow queen capsule so far.

Wow, that really does look like Snow Queen hair! Lovely. And I liked that top in the first place. Conceiving of it as a layering item definitely makes it easier to work into regular outfits.

Oh dear I am sorry about that remark. Sadly we do seem to remember unflattering remarks by husbands- but on the good side after 38 years of marriage those remarks are a lot less likely as time has gone by and he actually notices and compliments what I wear a lot more. Hang in there!

Thanks, all!

Angie I will take that Queen Riding Boots — I do love mine! And I find them super versatile and a reliable way to finish an outfit.

Star that sounds like such a yummy winter palette!

And thanks everyone for the hair compliments. I am not all that adept to be honest but practice makes perfect. On the plus side, my husband really likes my hair in any sort of braids.

On the minus side when he saw my new Snow Queen coat hanging in the bathroom to dry he asked me if it was a housecoat and when I said no he said, “are you sure?”

I can see why this is a favorite! This one really captures so many aspects of your style goals, including the hair. I am quite intrigued with this form of style signature. Love the boots too!

Seeing all your outfits over the last couple weeks, its clear how having your moniker helps guide the consistency of the urban snow queen!

The texture play here is a great way to bring interest during the cold months and identifying that the top can play that role even if it feels like it doesn't work as well in other roles.

Also this is a good reminder of how our hair can be really contribute to the vibe of a look!

I love this! So very Snow Queen. And I love the concept of mixing differently scaled textures. And the hair!! Sigh.

I totally support getting an additional bag but I think the teal one looks absolutely great with the outfit.

Cool! I like the velvety top. Good you kept it! My olive metallic bag is my most used bag but in winter my burgundy one is being used most often. My winter palette is mostly gray, black, burgundy and I have an eggplant puffer. But fits well with my other coloured items too.

OOOH!! Look at your Swedish hair! Almost like a crown braid. So cute, SarahD8!

I echo what kkards, said. Fab texture-mix, and rocking those burgundy cords! I can see a metallic and burgundy bag work well with your style :)

Pretty pearl necklace too.

Have I crowned you Queen Riding Boots, yet? You wear them soooo well!

What I wore:

Burgundy cords, black burnout velvet top, black/white Nordic long cardi

Short freshwater pearl necklace, amber pendant, amber ring, milkmaid braids

Outdoor version: cognac riding boots, black parka, teal bag

New piece(s): black burnout velvet top

Assessment of new item(s) – fit, etc.:

Ok I have struggled with this top in the past. I’ve nearly edited it out several times but now I’m really glad I didn’t because I’ve decided I actually do love it! The cropped, boxy cut can be tricky, but I think conceptualizing it as a layering piece that can add a hit of subtle pattern and texture to outfits will really help me use it effectively going forward.

Is the outfit elevated/cohesive/refined? Yes! Ok, I really pulled out all the stops here and I think it paid off – I am giving this outfit its own post because I think it’s my favorite yet. The idea here was to revisit those burgundy corduroy pants that kind of fell flat in their first outing. I had the idea to dress them up with velvet, sleek tall black boots, plenty of jewelry, an elaborate (by my standards) updo. I just love the result.

Where is the contrast? Casual/dressy, obviously. Value contrast (black and white cardi, black velvet and pearls). Texture: both unity and contrast. Hear me out. Corduroy and velvet have contrasting textures – one a bit rough, one lush. But also, because of the burnout velvet, both the pants and the top have a combination of pile and cut (I feel like I’m missing a couple of technical words here that would help me explain my meaning). So they also have a similar texture – the top just on a larger scale. So it is sort of the texture version of mixing a small-scale pattern and a large-scale pattern. Am I making any sense?

I wish I owned: We have been talking about expanding my bag capsule and landed on the idea of something metallic, maybe pewter. But, I think for mostly dark, burgundy-based outfits like this one, I’d also really like a darker bag – probably burgundy.

Thanks for looking!
