I agree that the two styles are very different and both would work in your boot collection.

Well, if you need more enabling, I have red knee high boots and am likely going to get the red pony nugents after Ascetic August. My winter season is long enough that I can get good use out of two pairs of red boots.

Janet - I vote defintely get them. It's like asking do you need more than one pair of black boots (this from another huge boot/bootie girl so you know the answer to that)? The Nugents are dressier and more refined but in an edgy elegant way in a fab but unexpected color. You know you'll wear the color with the pliner and the boot itself, since you've road tested it, but a completely different feel, seems like a sure thing to me!! Go and enjoy them!! September is almost here!!

At first I was going to say no, because in my book shoes that are too similar end up "competing" for wears, so you can't really enjoy either pair as much as you'd like! But then you described how the one pair works with skinnies and BFs, while the other pair has a narrower ankle and will work with dresses. So the usual thing that happens, with one bootie taking wears away from another bootie, won't occur here.

The only thing I can think of as posing a problem is your issues with red. I know you have mentioned having a problem with red, that you buy red things but they sit in your closet. Otherwise, I say yes, go ahead and buy!

Janet -- based on what I have seen of your purchases over these past few months, you are doing great building your wardrobe!!! I believe these two booties are sufficiently different and I think you would wear both extremely well.

I find that they are sufficiently different in style to be a justifiable purchase, if the dark red works across your wardrobe. They are both great boots.

I think they are both different, but how often do you see yourself wearing red boots? If these were black, I would say go for it, because I tend to wear black boots to death in the winter. Red may be harder to wear, but I'm not sure of what your wardrobe is.

I thought about that, Suz. The Matisse pair is pony, which gives me just the slightest pause from a practicality standpoint, although I love the texture and feel like that texture adds a bit of extra character to the style. The animal print Matisses are also pony, and have stood up pretty well to wear, but I generally avoid wearing them in bad weather. The Pliners are suede but have done beautifully even in rain.

Go for it. These look sufficiently different to my eye. Although you might consider that both are suede or nubuck -- would you like a smooth leather option? Or maybe that doesn't matter.

Ah, crutcher! The studded cowboy boots that I finally got a year later! I love them -- they are prominently displayed in my closet, and I am waiting not-so-patiently for the cooler months when they can come out to play more often (I've worn them a couple of times over the summer, in the evening with jeans).

I am such a boot freak! ;-)

I love the way the dark red plays well with blue denim and black pants, my two main types of bottoms from September through May. I'm keeping an eye out for a burgundy handbag too. So far, nothing I've seen has really grabbed me, but I have a feeling there will be more offerings in a couple of months.

Go for the red...Did I tell you that my first realization of you was you looking at those TDF boots in a Santa Fe shop..I coveted those boots sinfully for a long time...Get the red...the other colors won't make your heart sing...

Ever since Angie's blog post, I've had the Matisse Nugent booties on my wish list, waiting for the day I end Austerity August. I have the same booties in animal print, and I love them -- they're comfortable, and I like the refined shape, walkable wedge, and pointy toe.

But I just remembered that I have the Donald Pliner dark red booties from a couple of years ago, which I also still wear and love -- they've been tucked away for the summer months, so I almost forgot I have them! They are still in very good shape, and I definitely plan to continue wearing them.

Do you think these are different enough to justify the Matisse ones? I feel like they have quite different vibes, and I can see wearing the Matisse booties when the Pliners just don't work. For instance, the Pliners have a more rounded toe and a wider top that cuffs. I wear them with skinnies or sometimes with rolled BF jeans. The Pliners would work well with my baby bootcuts and flares, and I think they would also work with dresses or skirts.

What do you think? Go for it, or expand my bootie color horizon and go for something like navy or dark green? Or do both? ;-)
