I don't find the new - when I began wearing danskos in 1999 they only had the stapled clogs so the other line is new to me - "fashion" danskos as comfortable as the original stapled clog. Fashion comfort shoes always seem to be too soft or padded for me; while what makes the dansko comfortable for me is the rigid sole (I'm wearing mine as house shoes as I type this).

I do wear Frye boots & shoes, they are great.

Other brands I find comfortable & stylish: donald pliner, stuart weitzman, etc. because they too have a rigid sole to support my foot & weight.

Ohhh, I love the idea of the Frye boots. But I think I might have to get them in tall boots for more versatility. I've never tried on Frye boots ... are they comfortable?

My Dansko sandals weren't as cute as those that Angie posted. I forgot I do have another Dansko heeled sandal, which is dressier and a nude color, so I plan to wear those this summer with skirts.

The only problem I've ever had with Dansko clogs in terms of comfort is that I've turned my ankle in them -- probably because my feet tend toward narrow and the clogs are very wide.

Angie has posted some great clog alternatives, although I still am going to plan on the Frye harness boot alternative this fall. (And, whew!, I am relieved to know that Dansko sandals get the thumbs-up - I would be very sad to let those go).

I have a pair of Privo clogs that I wear in the fall & spring. They are similar to these except they are fully covered in the back too (so not a mule type):

http://www.shoebuy.com/privo-belfry/213964

I think I forgot to add this to Laura's post on the list of shoes that I wear with socks. Anyway, I do wear with with wider leg or bootcut jeans/cords so you can't really see too much of the shoe itself and it's not as heavy & clunky looking as Danskos. I actually intended to get the Danskos when I bought these but found them uncomfortable. I love the privos though - they are so lightweight and comfy! And the heel is a substantial 2 inches (I'm also 5' so I can relate on the need for some height!).

Ok I tried the Dansko clogs on yesterday.... incredibly uncomfortable. What's the big fuss? And looking in the mirror I felt ridiculous, like I was wearing bulbous huge shoes. I guess they're not right for me.

There are danskos, and there are danskos. As my client, you are forbidden to wear dansko clogs unless you wear wide-legged pants that cover up the shoe. I fully accept THAT look as one of casual style.

That being said, I encourage people to purchase the following dansko styles if they love the comfort factor of the brand (interestingly, I find all danskos extremely uncomfortable).

These are tried, tested and fully fabulous. You have MANY options:

I also own Dansko sandals and don't intend to give those up. (Unless someone here at YLF corrects me!).

You know, I was thinking that in the fall I might buy a pair of Frye harness boots as a replacement for the clogs. Harness boots seem to have a similar casual feel as the clogs, and although they are boots, it's not like they're fur-lined or something, so they would be fine in fall/spring.

I'm on the hunt for a pair of Danskos myself. I've heard from numerous friends about how comfortable they are and intend to wear them as a comfortable shoe for running errands, going to the post office, grocery store, and laundry. My guess is that Angie would lean towards it being an alternative for "gear." It's not a shoe that I'd try to make a fashion statement with. But gosh are they expensive!

I used to wear exclusively dansko shoes, when I had two very close together babies and not a lot of time for other things.

Now I only wear dansko clogs for house shoes.

I do wear platforms. I wear these in winter: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/29.....rchresults

I just bought these for spring: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....rchresults

My comfort level is 2-2.5 inches, but like you I crave more height.

Good topic! I have searched for that topic on this forum before, so I'm glad you asked. I know the love for Danskos!

I love Danskos for comfort too. I wouldn't get rid of your clogs altogether, just decide when to wear these very casual shoes ... like with casual bootcut jeans which keep the shoe mostly covered. I kept my Dansko mary janes as my "at-home" shoes, as I mostly wear them only at home now, as I walk around doing household chores, homeschooling, etc. My feet seem to need shoes for comfort all day long. I cannot go barefoot or in socks while at home. My feet just start to ache if I do.

I have found Clark's Artisan line is very comfortable, and I gave up a clunky Dansko sandal (worn during pregnancy) for a lovely Clark's wedge. Oh, how feminine it made me feel! I have Born boots (with short heel) for skirts, which I absolutely love. They are definitely 8 hour boots. I have Sofft pumps which are also quite comfortable. I do have a pair of Keen mary janes (they are lower profile than most of the keens), and I wear them as my "fashion sneaker" with jeans, to the park with the kids, grocery shopping, etc.

As I'm typing, I see that most of my best shoes are for dressing up or very casual so I guess I need to find another smart casual shoe for winter.

I love the comfort of the Dansko clogs and wear them to work as a nurse. I wouldn't wear them outside of work, first, because I save shoes specifically for the hospital, and second, because I have larger feet and they make my feet look enormous.

I agree that they are on the clunky side, but I'm sure are much cuter on smaller feet. I fell in love with Aerosoles for comfort shoes. They make some attractive styles and are on the cheaper side, if you're looking for something moderately fashionable to wear around. I've had a pair of black boots with a 2-3'' heel from them for a few years now that have never given me trouble, despite miles upon miles put on them. I also found an adorable pair of wedges last year and they are the most comfortable sandal I've worn. They've received a bunch of compliments and people can never believe they are Aerosoles when I tell them.

Aerosoles has a bunch of wedge styles available: http://www.aerosoles.com/categ.....;ShoeSize=

Maybe you can find a similar comfortable shoe brand that you like and choose a few wedge and low heeled styles from them. Nine West also has some nice loafers with a wedge heel that are just out.

Similar to this: http://www.ninewest.com/Iota/2.....itemNum=28

As a fellow Dansko clog wearer (now former Dansko clog wearer), I have to say that I too loved the height they gave me and the ease of slipping them on and off. (We should start a support group!!) BUT, in my opinion, they are sooooo clunky and, dare I say it, quite ugly. So I am trying to get myself into alternatives, like funky loafers, Cons, and fashion sneakers. I'll be watching the thread to see what advice everyone gives!

I'm a 43 year old mom of teenagers and only 5 feet tall. For the last five years I've been wearing Dansko black closed back clogs most of the fall/winter for casual with jeans. Are they stylish or too blocky? I like the height they give me (2 inches) while still being comfortable and they are great for running from yoga to a kid's sporting event to shopping on the weekend days.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, jd
