Thanks Aisha! It might actually work if you went up to a 14. Hmm....it'd be interesting to see. It is a nice length, too and very light weight, so good for summer.

Hey Ana,

Firstly, I have to say that the top looks really great on you! I love the colour on you and the style really works! No, unfortunetly I'm in Canada so my Jcrew addiction is fuelled mainly by online shopping and the occassional trip to the States. I thought a cami would be neccessary when I saw the top on the website...oh well I guess I will have to pass on this one. and/or be tempted the next time Jcrew offers an additional % off its sale offerings! I normally wear a 10/12 on top and was thinking that a 14 might work chest wise and with the sash tie I might be able to get away with a looser fit on the bottom. It looks as if the top has a good length to it as well which is normally my concern. I'm pretty short waisted as it is so anything to add length to my torso is good!!

Aisha, here is a picture of the Caterina top. I wear a size 6/8 on top and (as far as I know--I need an updated fitting) I'm a 36C. The Caterina tops are very fitted, so I ordered an 8, and I have to wear a cami with it or else it's pretty immodest (major cleavage going on). If you're a DDD, I'm temped to say it might not work for you because my chest is pretty squeezed in there--make sense? Here's the photo:

http://i66.photobucket.com/alb.....0289-1.jpg

Do you have a J. Crew anywhere near you? They have some Caterina tops in stock at the store. It would be nice if you could try it on first so you wouldn't have to go through ordering it, etc.

Have you considered wearing a long-sleeved fitted top underneath - crewneck, scoopneck or even turtleneck - for cooler days? (not sure if it will work, I'd have to see it on and maybe that look would be 'too grungy' for you?)

Something in the same colour could work:
http://teamsugar.com/90555

Or maybe a top in a bright contrasting colour (kelly green, raspberry...)?

I'm also imagining a blue and white striped turtleneck* underneath, paired with a dark wash trouser jean, kind of a sailor look?
* this one actually, I saved it to my computer a while ago, but unfortunately can't remember where I found it:

Ana, would you mind posting a pic of you in the Caterina top? I was debating about buying this during the last sale but I am top heavy (36dd) and was not sure if this would be flattering or not. Its hard to tell from the pics on the J.Crew site, they never have pics of the model with the item from the front!

No problem! I pretty much wore tanks under it, but I have some ruffly tops I'm going to try in the fall. A tank and a scarf looks really cute though. I wore coral, yellow, and bright green tanks with it mostly.

Thanks, Ana...I think I will look for another top to try under it. Equestrian is a hard look for me to pull off. When you wore it earlier when it was cooler, did you pretty much wear tanks under it? I don't have an issue with that look, I was just trying to branch out.

btw...you are so sweet to be a guinea pig like that and take all those pictures Thanks!

Hi Dani,

I took pictures of the silver Lana top with the Camilla jacket. I tried it a few different ways, and I think the best way is to untie the tie at the back and just let it hang down the back untied. It lays flat and it's not really noticeable or uncomfortable this way. I'm not a HUGE fan of how this looks, I like the cardigan with this top better because the detail of the tie in the back is really cute and adds a lot to the top, but I think it's okay. I tucked the shirt into my clamdiggers too, just so you know (it looked nicer this way).

I tried it two ways, one way with the jacket collar down, and one way with it popped up (because I like the collar popped up with tanks, too).

Collar down:

http://i66.photobucket.com/alb.....0312-1.jpg

http://i66.photobucket.com/alb.....0313-1.jpg

Collar up:

http://i66.photobucket.com/alb.....0310-1.jpg

http://i66.photobucket.com/alb.....0309-1.jpg

I definitely liked the collar up better and when I did this I somehow felt like an equestrian. I think if I did decide to wear this look, I would wear it with skinnies tucked into knee high boots.

When I first tried the Lana top on, I didn't pull the tie out. It made a little bump in the back with the thin cardi, so I pulled it out and I thought, "this looks really cute" so I decided to wear it that way with the cardigan. I think because the jacket is a thicker double knit, if you tied the tie in the back in a loose flat knot, there wouldn't be a bump, or it wouldn't be noticeable. So you'd have the raised bateau collar, but the tie would be hidden. Does this make sense? Later tonight I'll try it and take a picture and you can see what you think. I'd do it now, but I'm wearing the Caterina top today, which (I think you'll see) is not easy to get on and off. With a cami it takes a bit of adjusting and tying of the belt to get your bits in the right place. It's not annoying, but once it's on, it's just easier to leave it on.

As far as being a mole--no, I'm just pathetic and read the J. Crew catalog the way other women read fashion magazines. I'll look through it really carefully for a few days, and then put it away, and then take it out again a few days later and look through it again, and cut the pictures out of the outfits I like and make notes as to why I like the outfit ("nice color combo," "like the necklace with this," etc) and then think of things I have that maybe I could mimic the outfit. That's why if people post on here and say, "What should I wear with this?" Almost all of my suggestions are from J. Crew, because I pretty much have everything they offer memorized at any given moment. It's sad, I need help.

Thanks, Ana. I knew I didn't get the name of that jacket right...are you sure you aren't a mole from J Crew I was thinking of trying the Lana top, but I can't get my head around how the tie at the back would look with the collar of the jacket. I'll try it when it comes in. The orange shirt (can't remember the name of that one either) might work as well. My camis are all nylon and should work fine, I was just trying to think of some different looks rather than just a cami or tank.

Ah ha! The navy Camille Jacket! I have this jacket and LOVE it, I got so much use out of it earlier this year when it was cooler. I wore it at least twice a week. It looks great on you!

I never had the problem of it walking up when I wore a tank underneath. I did wear it open a lot though rather than buttoned. Have you tried a silk tank? A silk tank with it (slippery silk) might not have this problem. Did you order the silver polka dot Lana top? I know you probably don't have it yet, but I'm thinking you might give that a try when it arrives!

The colors are great, though I think a brighter yellow would look even better.

Tabletop butt seems to be an unavoidable fact of life. I don't think it's quite as bad with a shorter top like that, but for me it happens with tunic length tops which can be quite embarrassing because I definitely do not like how my butt looks in skinny jeans...hence covering it with a tunic. It doesn't matter what the fabric is either.

I think that, other than camis, you can wear simple knitted tees or blouses underneath. And maybe trying a nylon cami instead of a cotton one would help with the issue.

I wore this yesterday:
http://i302.photobucket.com/al.....300080.jpg

The sweater jacket is an ink J Crew Kelly jacket I believe. I wore a yellow tank under the jacket but the cotton on cotton caused the tank to "walk" up every time I moved. I spent the whole day yanking it down (and thought of Maya and her "tabletop butt" thread). What other tops should I look for to wear under the jacket besides camis?

btw...ignore the pants, my PPL jeans were in the wash. Thanks!
