I agree about the vest being a keeper and the pants being a lost cause. I think I'd like to see a sleeker shoe too. Maybe a thong sandal, or a fashion sneaker or Converse in a fun color.

I've seen *some* women manage to wear a similar vest with a plain white Tee Shirt under. I've seen it work, and I've seen it fail. I think it has to do with the length of the sleeve, the cut of the vest, and most importantly the shape of the woman. Maybe rectangles can pull this off because there are no curves to distract.

Thanks everyone...I appreciate the feedback. I do really like orange and have quite a few pieces in this color. I will try it with a white shirt and dark jeans next time.

I guess would chinos be better in army green, dove grey and chocolate brown rather than khaki? As primarily a SAHM, I really don't feel the need for dress style slacks and tend to live in chinos (which I will work on getting in the correct size) and jeans, but I tire of wearing jeans all the time.

Ana, the belt moves up everytime I lift my arms, and my "bits" do hang out if I put it much tighter. Unfortunately, two having two kids did away with my once flat stomach I may just have to find a belt similar to what you described or maybe one with elastic since I'm going to be shopping for a new belt anyway

Hmm...as far as belts slipping around, I don't have too much of a problem with that, unless I try to wear them higher than the point where my waist goes in, then they like to slip down, so I have to wear them extra extra tight and adjust from time to time. Otherwise, it likes to just sit on my natural waist pretty nicely. It does shift more if the fabric is slippery or if the belt is a little big/loose.

The one on you looks about where I wear mine. Is it slipping down, or is the buckle shifting around? I tend to wear mine tighter than I think you're wearing yours in the photo. How does it feel to wear it one notch tighter, is that uncomfortable, or does it squish your bits out (mine do that sometimes)? It looks pretty good. The other thing to try is a belt that has a suede/fabric backing. This will sort of stick to your clothes more than a completely slick double sided patent/leather belt does. Does this make sense?

Exactly. I echo Maya and Antje completely. White shirt, orange vest, dark blue jeans and your super little red shoes. I feel that this particular belt is too classic for the look. You need a belt with a modern edge to kick these classic pieces up a notch. Make sense?

Nice attempt Dani. You are getting the hang of it and you look good in orange!

Keep the vest! The orange pops and it looks like it's a great color on you. Agree with Maya that the color of the pants is a bit "blah". The vest would look super on dark blue denim. You might also want to try different shirts/blouses. If you switch out the bottoms to a richer color, I wonder if a crisp white shirt wouldn't look better. You can also do a patterned shirt, e.g. if you have a white shirt with black stripes or pattern. I love layering with vests like this, it's fun!

I think you can keep the vest. The color is super and belting it really helps it and keeps it from looking grandpa-ish. I'm not someone who wears belts a whole lot so I don't know how to answer your other question, but I know what you mean. Whenever I wear one, I always feel like I have to keep adjusting it. Sometimes it feels too tight when I sit even though it feels fine when I'm standing. Ana seems to wear belts a lot, so perhaps she can enlighten us. I think the top half works nicely. Maybe with some accessories it will pop even more. I see a turquoise necklace working beautifully with that shade of orange.

The thing that's throwing the outfit for me is the pants. Beige pants don't really go with anything to me. They always look drab no matter what other colors you pair them with. The shape is also off. It's baggy and not helping at all. I think based on what I have seen, you should focus on getting some fabulous jeans, pants, and crops (bermudas and clamdiggers, that is). I liked the jeans you had on the other day but I know they were too short. Once you get some great jeans at PPL I think it will improve your wardrobe immeasurably. I really liked a lot of the tops you posted in that discussion about your upcoming vacation, so it's just the bottom half that needs some attention.

So here's my attempt at a belted outfit. I pulled this vest out of my closet and was trying to see if I could update it any way. Should I keep it or let it go? Also, those of you that do this look frequently, how do you keep the belt in place? I keep messing with it...maybe I just need to get used to it?
