You know, it's interesting about relaxing, being yourself, and acceptance.

On the one hand, I believe that totally. If you're comfortable, others will be comfortable with you. You won't get a hard time. People will like you and what you're wearing.

On the other, I'm not sure if you'll "get picked for dodgeball," if you don't seem to be on the team. One of my first bosses told me, after we'd gotten to be friends, I was his pick because I came dressed "button down."

I think it would be fine to wear them, and then simply remove them when on the factory floor.

My two cents: one of my former colleagues - a high powered much in demand oncologist ( cancer specialist) wears the most outlandish dangly earrings and chunky necklaces- invariably her patients love it and it gives them something to talk about. I think this is a diversionary tactic with very sick patients with grim prognoses and works very well.

Perhaps less 'out there' my immigration attorney- a former federal prosecutor and breast cancer survivor also wears dangly earrings. not sure she wears them to court appearance but certainly while meeting clients.

I wear mid sized hoops a lot and danglers too. I usually get positive attention rather than any negative attention. One thing I'm learning- if you are comfortable in your own skin and your own attire- no one else really notices. Its when we ourselves are obviously ill at ease fussing with a dangly earring or a lower than usual neckline that it seems that others notice too.

Go ahead. wear them. they will look awesome and so will you!

I wear a ton of dangle earrings - the only ones I avoid are ones made of metal, because they clank on the sides of the stethoscope - not very useful when you're trying to actually listen for stuff!

Never had a problem about them.

Obviously, no danglies in the OR

Oh well, i worked at a factory , but i was in the design engineering team, so not many trips on the floor ( we were concerned with prototypes). As MaryK, I wear lots of dangling earrings. I find they go well with my roundish face! They are really classy versions if you feel concerned about it. I have basic gold pair, just to 2inches strings, and a small stone where they meet the ear. i wear lots of costume earrings, but this is for classy - work occasions

Well, if a high powered lawyer, a chief of staff, and a graduate instructor wear dangly earrings, I'll have to rethink(!)

But it's true, no dangly earrings on the floor. In fact, no jewelry at all. Even button earrings - they could fall off and into something. That's happened at the bakery where I moonlight. Very bad deal.

This would never have occurred to me as a question because I have never worked anywhere with a strict dress-code. In any case the earrings look really cute.

I remember being at a teaching skills seminar as a graduate student, and the instructor pointed out that she liked to draw students' attention to her face as she was teaching/talking. She pointed to her long, dangly, boho-style earrings as one way to do it.

On the other hand, in a lab or factory-type setting I would be very leery of anything that can get pulled into machinery, whether it is long hair or longish earrings or loose scarves.

I guess none of this really answers your question.

I used to be very hesitant to wear dangly earrings at work. Then I fell in love with Allison Janney's character on "The West Wing" and decided if dangly earrings were good enough for the (fictional) White House Chief of Staff, they were good enough for this (semi) high powered lawyer! LOL

I've made dangly earrings something of a trademark, and I would totally wear the ones you've posted!

Ya, there's no dress code, only safety regulations about what you cannot wear on the factory floor. It's kind of a jeans or black pants crowd. There's one lady who wears barrettes... LOL.

Does the firm you work for have a dress code? That might be helpful in deciding.

Ok. I have a question: What do y'all think of dangly earrings at work?

I put a pair on this morning, and then took them off. They were "punky" bows (kinda like the pic below, but not *pearl*). Now, I can wear them in the office, but if I go on to the factory floor (unlikely today), they have to come off. I was thinking they made it seem like I was unprepared to work.

I note, too, that dress codes for hotel hospitality planners and so forth also specify discreet button earrings - no dangling earrings. And they have no safety concerns.

Thoughts?
