I can see not having your food taste good would be a real quality of life issue, especially if you can’t do many of the things you used to enjoy. I agree with the doctor, JennNZ, and hope some assistance can be arranged for when he does go home. Simply “staying strong” can’t last for years. Needing help doesn’t mean anyone has failed, just that it’s a big task. Very different than the place my dad is. Most of the patients there seem to be bed ridden. I would imagine that's why they are there. My sister said his heart medicine affects the way things taste to him (which is why he doesn't take it at home). It is all awful and I am sure you are all doing the best you can and COVID complicates everything. If it possible to take turns staying in his room, especially overnight, that might help to keep him there a little longer, although it will be exhausting. We just need his hip to heal more before he comes home. My sister has a bad back, and my mother is in her 70's and frail.
