Have to agree with Dana on this one. I don't own any EF, but have become very interested in her line and using what i can from it in creating my own 'vanilla' or essential pieces for my wardrobe. I'm also very interested in how she makes very comfortable clothes look sophisticated and luxe, due to my nerve damage comfort is a must but i don't want to wear sweatpants all the time (they aren't even comfy on me anyways!). I've been spending a fair amount of time in her local boutique and outlet store trying on and photographing myself in many of her pieces - essentials as well as statement.

EF puts subtle and very important shaping in her clothing, the seams are well constructed and suited to the fabric and the role the seam is playing in the particular garment, and her fabrics are very luxurious as well as flattering (ie. they drape so as to not add any bulk without clinging to weird bulges. Not that any of you get weird bulges, but i have one or two ;). You could belt this dress at the waist very easily if you want a change from the empire waist.

FWIW, steph

Eileen Fisher is not like many GH items. I find GH's own label not cut very smartly, but I have pretty much been very happy with my EF items. Of course, I purchase very specific items, and I know my style, and I know my size. That helps.

Well, this has become an interesting discussion! Is an experiment in order? I am trying to figure out how to hone the appeal factor - this dress really appealed to me, as do many GH items, but the reality is often so disparate....

It is NOT FRUMPY. Ok, NM, it IS frumpy. Everyone else stay away, and Eileen Fisher will remain my little secret. And when everyone asks where I get my nice frocks I will simply lie and say they're European.

Well, as a rectangular apple with a - ahem - bosom, I am going to be looking for empire-waist dresses, because there is very little else out there that will fit. There better be a way to defrump it or there is little hope for me. Yikes.

I like it a lot and think it has great potential. The frump factor would be dependent on the fit and the styling. I agree with April that with too much boobage, there's maternity frump for sure, especially with that neckline.

Tricky. I'm going to disagree with JR and say that I actually think this sort of dress only works with straight figure and nonexistent bust. Add a bustline and you've got old-school maternity wear.

I think it would be great to pin.

In practice, I think only a slim rectangle could really pull it off. You'd get some serious frump if it hit the bust line and then fell like a tent. I also don't think the line of it would like hips.

Hmm. I don't think it looks particularly frumpy from the photo. My worry (and it's always my worry with Eileen Fisher) is just how it will look on my (or anyone's) particular body. There is so little structure in a dress like this. If you have any sort of bustline it might not flatter.

I'd say go for it if you've had success with this style in the past. To me, it looks risky fit-wise.
