Shiny, I have no plans to purchase them. I'm happy with my $14 Stephen Colbert tote People are really stocking up on election paraphernalia though, since, as you said, it will increase in value.

Antje, I would love to make a trip to Seattle and make a point of meeting all your Seattlites while there. I was in that area only once, and it was just to catch a puddle jumper to Bend Oregon. I've always said I wanted to go back with my family and visit that region. Maybe someday.... :)

I would love to meet you too--I think we would hit it off!

Before the election, DH surprised me with an Obama message of Hope boyfriend cardigan. He was despondant when I didn't wear it to election night - but it was HUGE and if I belted it, you couldn't see the message of Hope logo - plus it was made out of the chintziess material imaginable.

I'm going to resist checking this store to see how much he paid... but he did say it wasn't cheap. So Maya I would caution you about that: the merchandise is very cheaply made; the price is high because you are essentially making a donation. If you want this because you need a tote that will last and be a workhorse, I would buy something else; for example, Lands End makes excellent, high-quality totes that last and last and hold up to rigorous use.

With that said, the $75 might be considered an investment! Political campaign paraphanelia can go up in value and become collector-item worthy. But if that's what you choose to do, I wouldn't use the tote. I'd buy it and tuck it away for your grandchildren someday. :-)

P.s. I do wear the bf cardigan quite often: around the house! And over my jammies!!

Are people in the US quite open about who they vote for? I have never asked, and seldom been told, here in Australian who anyone has voted for.

I guess I don't take my political alliances as personally as some people do. I like talking about and debating politics, but I find most women seem to shy away from it for some reason, which is a real bummer to me. I think rather than repelling people, wearing something like this will attract people. Perhaps if I lived in rural Alabama, that wouldn't be true. Well, in any case, I just thought it was interesting because it's certainly not something I have ever seen before (and yes the apostrophe bugged me too from a typographical standpoint).

I have to say if someone found me unapproachable because of my political alliances or a totebag, I probably wouldn't want to be approached by that person anyway.

Wearing a brand is a completely different matter to me. Steph's example of pro-vegetarian gear or political gear has an actual message that speaks of the person wearing the clothes. Wearing JUICY across your backside is just show-offish and tacky. I think it's absolutely criminal that they charge as much as they do for those velour tracksuits, and that people will actually pay the money to become human billboards for them.

I wouldn’t walk around with a bag like this now, but I might if I was your age, Maya. I’m into subtle branding for sure. Unfortunately, I wear logoed AE sweats, but what can you do.

OMG Nicole, I almost fell off my chair laughing about the suggestion of Obama or Marc Jacobs running around with your name on their butts. You are so so funny. When are you joining us in Seattle for a YLF gathering?? I love your sense of humor.

PS: Steph, I know!! One of my biggest pet peeves is the misuse of apostrophe's (sorry I couldn't resist!), which includes direction.

I agree with Nicole.
I purchased a Coach logo tote last year (at a consignment shop) and felt like such a poser. Carrying *any* label is not something I'm a big fan of.
Especially something as emotionally charged like politics or religion, etc. I didn't vote for Obama, but I wouldn't carry ANY politician's name around regardless of how passionate I was. I am trying to be more approachable as it is!

I think those totes are fabulous and would love one, but I just can't justify the $75 right now. I hope they stay available for a while so I can put it on my birthday list.

Steph, maybe they the apostrophe was done intentionally as an artistic representation of change. hee hee.

This is kind of pathetic, but the only thing I could see when I looked at the Mark Jacobs bag is that the apostrophe is facing the wrong way. I can't believe they let it be rolled out to stores that way without anyone changing it.

I have to admit that I like wearing some political-type things on my sleeve--literally. I have a couple of cute vegetarian shirts that i wear on weekends often, and get tons of compliments on. I think it can be fun for a casual weekend look sometimes.

Hmmm I gotta say, I'm not a big fan of advertising my political alliances for the world to see. It's kind of like religion or an emotionally charged issue--not really anyone else's business but my own. I also don't like designer's names displayed all over their product. When I see someone with such an item, I think either A.) it's fake or B.) the person is trying to prove something.

Now what I'd like to see is Marc Jacobs or Obama for that matter, walking around with my name across their butts. Now that would be worth the price of admission. Don'tchyathink?

Those are cute! When I first saw the "Obama '08" tote (which is my favorite), I thought, "$75?! For a plain canvas to--oh, it's Marc Jacobs." Heh. If it were $15 I'd be all over it though.

Speaking of Marc Jacobs totes, I've seen this one (I'm sure you have too), and I just love how cheeky it is, because I hate how designers put their name all over something. I think it just ruins whatever the item is.

OK this is NOT a political post but a fashion post: I sometimes have trouble resisting merch and paraphernalia even if it isn't the most stylish thing in the world, but at least as far as election season goes, I can finally have it all:

http://store.barackobama.com/P.....de=TB93006

I don't think I'm going to get them (just blew $14 on a Stephen Colbert tote!), but I thought they were cute and thought some of you might want to be made aware of them
