I don't have any info, just asking if these are the current dates? It says 2012 on most of them, not sure if that is a typo or if maybe the company did not update their timetable?

Interesting. My husband has had some bespoke clothing made (shirts and jackets specifically because he is very tall and thin with long arms, so he is extremely hard to fit off the rack for something like dress shirts and suit jackets). He's had mixed success. Ralph Lauren's custom service totally messed up and made his shirts exactly to his measurements with no extra room! We had a better experience with a guy in Portland, OR, but I think the next time he needs shirts he'll find somebody closer to home.

My local tailor wants me to go for getting stuff made from her, but is rather evasive about prices, so I havent done it.....

Hi Elle, Charmian asked me to stop by here. My husband has gotten shirts made by Maxwell Clothiers, who are based out of Hong Kong. They appear to have a similar mode of operation as Hira's tailor, flying into various international cities and setting up shop in a hotel room.

The first time he went was with his family and I wasn't there. The second time we went together to the appointed hotel room. When we showed up there were several other men there also looking for shirts. They had books of sample fabrics and IIRC a piece of cardstock with pictures of the different collar and cuff styles. Pricing was based on choice of fabric. We chose two white + pattern fabrics (striped/checked) for work and one dark brown striped fabric for a "going out shirt"

There were two tailors in the room who would take your order. Since he was a repeat customer, they said they had his measurements on file and didn't need to re-measure him. However, I insisted that they take measurements as his shape had changed subtly over time and the first batch of shirts no longer fit him perfectly. They took measurements in a fairly cursory fashion and I did have to prod them - shouldn't you measure x,y,z. I am sure they probably were a little more rigorous the first time he went in.

Regardless of their measurement techniques, both batches of shirts (from the first and second visits) fit him well at the time they came in. I'm not an expert on men's fit and I'm sure a Savile Row tailor could make a shirt whose fit would be even more exquisite. However, the shirts were a million times better than anything he has ever bought off the rack. They were tailored to accommodate the curve in his back and they aren't baggy around the waist.

At this point, we won't buy off the rack shirts for him. When he needs new shirts, we'll go back to this tailor.

Good point Charmian. I didn't check if they do that but it wouldn't seem like it as they are at different locations, moving all the time. Perhaps only use them to copy something you already have & love the fit of.

I lived in HK for 4 months earlier this year and spent a little time looking at tailoring (bespoke and otherwise) while there. I promised to write about my experiences here on the forum and never did -- whoops!

If you've never done bespoke tailoring before, it's worth a try because, well, it's fun! Especially for clothing aficionados like we have here. :)

One of the reason bespoke tailoring is so expensive is that it takes multiple tries to get a garment "right". The standard suggestion is to allocate time for 3 appointments: 1 to take your measurements and discuss preferences, 1 to verify the fit of the incomplete garment and make changes before things are finalized, and the last 1 to try it on. If you have a pre-established (and trusted) relationship with this tailor, it might be fine to compress it down to 1 fitting; otherwise, I would personally pass. First, you're missing out on the most fun parts of bespoke tailoring (I fondly remember my tailor muttering about my IT shoulders in my second fitting), and secondly, if the final garment is not to your liking it's really hard to make changes. The measurements may be fine, for example, but perhaps the cut is more conservative (or more trendy) than you or your husband prefer.
