I'm petite, but petite pants are almost always too short in the rise and in the inseam (even with flats). I get around it by buying acregular misses size, but they're almost always too long. I'm taking 6 pairs to the tailor this morning to get them all hemmed up. It's irritating.

Oh yes! Definitely with the pants... Of course, I hadn't realized I was having a hard time until I came here... but knowing what I know now, it's hard to find the right length. I got lucky with my recent jeans find, they're perfect for my black boots that only have about 1 1/4" heel. Now that I'm learning to look at the spendier jeans brands (because YES they really truely are worth it!) I'm having more luck with inseam variance, but if I just go to any old store, pants are barely long enough for flats.

Tops I don't have such a hard time with. My torso length is all between my collar bones and underbust... I think I end up with a fairly average-length torso in the end (unless I'm dealing with a one-piece bathing suit).

Shorts, though, are hard to find. I think my legs are longest in the thigh area. I remember crying throughout elementary and middle school as the teacher would come at me with the dreaded ruler to make sure my shorts came within "x" inches of my knee while kneeling on the floor. Sure enough they were always at least 2" too short, nevermind they were past my fingertips while standing... oh the humanity... hehe.

Thank goodness Angie is sweeter in her instructions for shorts wearing.

Awesome! Do you share my despair of trying to find longer pants and tops too?

Hey TalloneinOR... I'm a TallOneinWA :)

For the longest time I thought I must just be odd-shaped somehow, though I never thought I LOOKED it.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this forum & blog... It's so helpful to have all of these awesome women to pose questions to and remind you that you're not the only one with "x" problem.

Luckily, I found the perfect pair of jeans, no altering required when I was at TJMaxx the other day. I think I'm going to be a lifelong fan of Hudson Jeans now

I saw a company that did custom order jeans in New York City on tv, but unfortunately I couldn't find the name. Sorry!

I have also had trouble with jeans that don't fit in the hips and waist, but a cheaper alternative than getting custom jeans that may end up being several hundred dollars is to find a quality pair that fits the widest part of you, then paying a good tailor to take in the areas with extra fabric.

Remember that if the clothing doesn't fit, it's the clothing that doesn't fit YOU, not YOU who doesn't fit into the clothing! (I need that reminder every once in a while!) Good luck!

I have never, ever found jeans that fit me properly. In order to clear my hips and rear end, they always gape around my waist, usually around 4 inches worth. I've seen many posts on this forum regarding having items tailored for the perfect fit, but I don't see much sense in spending a high dollar amount to buy jeans that are even worth tailoring. I think it makes more sense to just flat out order jeans that were made from scratch just for me for the amount of money.

With that in mind, has anyone here ever ordered or known of anyone who has ordered custom jeans? I've come across several websites that offer this service, some look cheesy, others look like they could be a good investment... any experience or recommended places I should consider?

Thanks all!
