Another one - extra shipping charges to Alaska. First of all, we ARE part of the continental (though not contiguous) U.S. Second, I don't care if it takes a few days longer to get here - not everything has to be shipped express to Alaska. It's why I don't shop at AT or ATL... they charge an extra $15 on top of regular shipping, even when everyone else gets FREE shipping!

This may smack of politicalism, but it is not intended to do so...My pet peeve is almost everything is made in China! Hubster and I went to get some western boots, Tony Lama and looked at the label - made in China...wtf?!?! (excuse my non-ladylike outburst). I'm all for every country exporting but come on...western boots by a US label made outside of the US? (And I'm aware a number of labels outsource to parts other than the US). It just seems somehow weird. We decided that the next time we visit family in Houston, we'll get our boots there by a local western boot maker.

Not enough fabric in dress hems to let the hem down. So often, I find a dress that would be perfect if it were only 1 or 2 inches longer. I'm sure this is a cost-cutting method that manufacturers use to make the item using as little fabric as possible.

Add another thing....

Charging $5 or $10 extra for Tall/Women's sizes.

As if the extra 1/2" of fabric on the pair of shorts makes that much difference to the item cost.

Yet there is never a discount for Petites

A peeve of mine that has been around too long: low scoop necklines and vnecks that dip into the (non-existent cleavage) area, which being WAY too immodest for work, plus revealing too many age spots and skin bumps, are always left unbought. Why can we not find moderate necklines? I don't need turtlenecks but please, something that doesn't reveal straps or the totality of the undies when you lean forward a smidge.

Another peeve of mine, which is possibly a local issue: one popular department store, which has nice fashions in my price range, will not stock anything smaller than "small", which must not be that small since they usually droop and drape on me like many a large or x-l in other stores, and while I'm thinking about it, do any of you out there who usually wear a small really have armpits or arms that need dinner plate sized armholes? Esp. in a knit, do we need armholes in sleeveless garments that open half way to the waistline? What do you think?

My m-i-l has the same problem with necklines - she usually wears an x-l, 1X or maybe a 16, and the neck openings seem to make room for an elephant's neck.

Perhaps this is all another symptom of poor quality in the pattern design from the get-go.

The pencil skirt rage! I like them, they don't like me. Can we please have a season of A-lines?
And I hate being this weird in-between size at 14-16. Too big to shop at regular stores, too small to shop in plus sizes. Seriously, I tried on a pair of 16 pants that pinched my thighs, so tried the 1X and felt like I was swimming in fabric. Grrrrr.

And they're related, because if there were decent A-line skirts around, I wouldn't have to mess around with trousers.

Too short dresses.
Not enough sleeves.
No wide rain boots.
Not enough tops & dresses in mostly natural fibers or blends.
Bizarre sizing fluctuations interfering with on-line shopping.
Expense - does a nice blouse really have to cost so much?
Magazines that don't show things I could actually purchase and wear.
Inaccessible new trends (like the year purple was supposedly all the rage, but I could not find a nice purple bag to save my life)
Pants that have to be constantly tugged up at the back because of the low rise
(I'm sure there's more, but I'm tired of complaining.)

Just being on the higher end of plus-sized is a major shopping headache. I just find it very hard to find nice-looking things in my size. Either the items I want aren't made in my size, or the things that are available in my size are ugly or cheaply made. Or way too short.

This is one of the reasons why I hold on to so many of my clothes, I think. It's always been such a challenge to find clothes that I like that I tend to cling to them even when they are long past being fashionable, or I have become bored with them.

I'm in the market for a sewing machine. I'm going to learn to at least alter clothes to fit me and eventually make my own, I think.

Argh--- I think I will chime in with the lack of shopping in my area. We have a wal mart, a Boot Barn, a JCPenney that does not sell any talls or any of the younger stuff, and two juniors stores. I have to travel an hour to reach a small understocked low rent dillards, any thrifting (and that is picked over unless you love flashdance), and a target. I have to go 3 hours to get to AT or BR or Macy's and 10 hours to go to nordies or JCrew.

Also, I am tall--- I also have broad shoulders (very broad) and am buxom with a small waist. I can either buy tall stuff that I can't get the rest of me into or I can buy curvy stuff that is too short. I need a store that sells clothes for giants (oh, by the way, since when are people that are 5'8" and weigh less than two kids giants?-- love it or leave it I need a 35-36" inseam). There is usually poor selection for tall tops, which is the worst since I need long sleeves because of my climate and own preferences/comfort.

Also--- polyester summer shirts suck. And why can't ANYONE make comfy shoes that aren't grandma-y or manly. I know it is possible, I build stuff!

I don't mind sheer when it's part of the item's design. But white t-shirts and buttondowns you can see through are a huge pet peeve. If anyone can recommend a brand of white t-shirts that's really opaque and runs large (or comes in plus size), I am all ears!

I tried on a nice white buttondown at Coldwater Creek and you could see right through it. Drives me nuts!

Out here I get irritated by how they stock the stores unevenly. There is almost nothing in my age demographic at department stores.

To explain: I found my trenchcoat at JCPenney. Originally I found it in another town, but I didn't get it because I figured my town store would have it. Not only did they not have it in any color I wanted, but also only in plus sizes. I ended up having go back to get it (but by the time I got it it had gone on clearance so I ended up getting a $170 coat for $99 :)

And speaking of Old Navy, I dunno if it's just where I am, but why do they put the pants with the shorter inseams on the highest shelves?

I want to add that along the lines of cheapening of fashion and sheerness of everything, I cannot find a decent basic white t with a nice drape to it. If it drapes, it's so sheer it's not even white anymore but more skin colored! And if it's thick enough to not be sheer, it doesn't drape well and fits like a boxy boy's shirt. Harumph.

Agreed on cheapening of fashion. Why can't I even buy a decent T shirt anymore?

Also on shoes--I generally need a 10 1/2 and a lot of places don't stock it or stock limited amounts. 11s are usually too big. I see lots of brands that sell online that have half sizes up to 10, then jump to 11.

I am in a grumpy mood today about the poor quality of just about everything lately. I am partly to blame though--I keep buying lots of cheap stuff out of frustration. I ought to save up and shop harder for better quality.

I have two. One is that clothing choice in Canada is much more limited that in US even for the same brands and tall sizes are very hard to come by. How come BR and Gap in US offer alot of models in Long and Tall versions but in Canada they do not have Tall size at all and a number of models in Long is much slimmer.
Number two is that finding my shoe size 12 in our stores is almost impossible. It is a blessing we have Long Tall Sally (aka Tall Girl) in London - otherwise I would be walking around barefeet. But with one store only the selection is very limited - and Zappos does not ship to Canada anymore!

My pet peeve is the lack of great stores that stock items for petites in my area. I guess that just means a shopping trip to the big metropolis....

NK, that's exactly why things are made so sheer - so you will need an under layer and the store banks on you purchasing both items together. I have a friend who used to work at The Limited, and she said managers would go on and on about how no one has an excuse to not raise their "items per transaction" average because every top should be an automatic two piece sale.

Sizing is continuously challenging, definitely not universal, but it doesn't deter me from the hunt.

When I see/try on something I absolutely love - I buy it. Immediately. Sometimes in multiples.
