#1 and #9 are both manageable options, though if you want #1 to behave as well as the photo it might take some extra work Especially the long bits by the ears, my curls would never let that actually happen. I find that the shorter I have my hair, the more time I have to put into it.

By the way, I don't use much product in my hair but recently I've been using a little bit of Alaffia's shea butter curl defining gel, if anyone's looking for curl product ideas.

I think #1 would look great on you. And you could probably just add some styling creme when you hair is wet which would add some definition to your curls for an alternate look (sorta like the curls in #9).

I think, when you go in, you just have to make sure the stylist doesn't go 1980s Prince & The Revolution on you when you say, "short in back, long on top."

I also like #1! I got my hair cut recently after hesitating about it for months. I went to a new-to-me place that was rated very well on Yelp, and thankfully it worked out! I showed her my Pinterest board of styles that I liked, including goal styles for when my hair grows out a little. Like you, I want the front longer. She went short up the back and I LOVE how it came out!! I can't link easily because I'm on my phone, but I posted pics in my WIW to the Rack post from last week.

ETA link: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....r-the-rack

Also, my curl level varies day-to-day. Today, it's curlier than it was in that pic. On Easter, it was straighter. It's a shape that seems to work either way!

Carla you need to talk to your stylist because what is achievable with your hair will depend on the nature of the curl, the thickness of the fibre, how much hair you have and how it grows. I have stong thick curly hair and lots of it. There's one kind of pixie that works for me and I'm sure that with an expert at the helm you'll find the right pixie for you.

The first on is probably the most practical, but man that orange is awesome on the right skin tone. I say go for it, it's only hair and you can change the cut in a couple of months to refine if necessary. Definitely find someone good with curls though, as everyone else noted, it's not a universal skill. I recommend/swear by Curl Keeper to tame the frizz when I go curly, and the roller clamps to add volume when air drying. Grey hair (but dyed) needs so much more help! And post pics...I'm jealous!

Totally do-able! My trendy, twenty-something stylist talked me into a style very similar to the first pic a year or so ago and I've never regretted the decision. It took a bit of adjustment because I was so used to wearing my naturally curly hair in a straightish bob. This cut is the best of both worlds because I can wear it curly or blow-dry it for a straighter look.

I think the key is to get your stylist to cut the back and sides into a definite shape to avoid the cut looking like a round ball of curls plopped on top of your head. My hair looks best with the sides cut close to the head and tapered to just below the ears, the back cropped quite short, and the crown and fringe left fairly long.

I've had fun playing around with different products to get different effects on the back and top section. Styling mud, fibre paste, glossing agents, and curl enhancers all give different effects. To my mind wearing my hair like this looks much more modern than a curly bob and is so much easier to look after.

I agree something like #1 could look fantastic. My only advice is make sure you stylist really understands curly hair. I have naturally wavy/curly hair which I prefer to wear straight but I still need stylist who undertands curly hair. There are certain things that just dont work on my hair (even if I am straightening it) so I need someone who gets that. Pastry Girl and Mochi both have great short curly cuts, maybe they will chime in.

Since joining YLF a little over a year ago, I've been gradually going shorter with my hair. It's working with my lifestyle, which is somewhat wash-and-go, since I often hit the gym mid day and don't have time to fuss with it. I do tend to blow dry it straight, and sometimes flat iron it in the winter, but May to September I just use a little leave in conditioner and let it go.

It's been almost 3 months since my last haircut, and I'm thinking of cropping it super short in back and over the ears, but leaving the top long since I loose so much length when it dries.

Any hair experts or curly pixies out there? Am I being realistic with my ideas? My fall back is the inverted bob.

FWIW, I know I don't have the super brilliant colour or precision make-up of the sample pictures. Also, I've got to keep the specs.
