Oh I was confused. I thought you were naturally curly. Flat ironing is what will damage your hair.

The curly look probably did more damage to my hair because of all the hairspray otherwise my hair would be flat within an hour. And ive been trying to deep condition amd use coconut oil and comb gently

Your hair looks pretty damaged. I'd try wearing it curly for a while and giving it some serious conditioning. And scrunch your wet hair with your hands when you get out of the shower. That might help with the volume.

Curly looks softer. Straight looks a harsh/hard. If you want your hair to look touchable, something someone wants to run their fingers through curly is the way to go. Even if you don't let anyone touch it.

^^agree with April, all the girls nowadays are flattening their hair (rather than just straightening it), and whats more is that the ceramic ion plates will damage hair permanantly...I used one for about a year, and then couldn't get my natural curls to come back...had to just grow them out and keep cutting off the damaged part, which took about two years.

Great advice about getting more volume at the root, this is the key to curls looking good, IMO. Always use a diffuser, product, and I blow dry upside down to get the volume, which then dies down after a few minutes.

Looks pretty both ways!

Curly girl here. Both are good, but with curls it's always good to add some volume at the root, if that makes sense. Usually this is done by molding the hair in some way while it dries: I "push up" the front chunks of hair and clip them in place while the initially drying takes place, and then they will (sometimes) hold some volume throughout the day and be less inclined to hang in my face.

In the photo below (no, that's not me :) ), see how her hair kind of curves away from her face in the top front? That shape comes from molding it while it's wet.

I'm so glad to see a young person experimenting with curls. When I look at the girls in my town, I feel like someone must be stopping them all and forcing them to submit to a flat iron. :)
